The dairy game| a visit to my local market (UKWO Umbaise Market). 17/9/2025.
Hello steemians, it was such a wonderful day yesterday, thanks to God for making it possible for us to see this day. I got to go to my community's market with my uncle and two aunts. We went to the market to get items needed in the house, especially in the kitchen. When I woke up, my mother reminded me that I would be going to our community market (ukwo umbaise).
I was sleeping and felt weak but as soon as my uncle was done with what he had to do, I and I set out for the market because my aunties had already gone to the market. We went to the market on foot, as soon as we got they I saw that the population of individuals in the market increased more than the first time I came to the market which was last week Tuesday, the ukwo umbaise market usually occurs after every eighth day. As we got close to the market I saw a lot of things that were sold pepper, tomatoes, animal skin, school bags, etc. Firstly, after meeting my aunties at the market, we went to withdraw 50,000 naira (243 steem).
We got the money and started making use of the list that my mother gave us to get the required items. What were we to buy?
|Meat - 2000 naira| Mod fish - 1000 naira| Boxer 2| Intita - 1000|
|Hair brush| Achi - 1000|Bonga fish - 2000 | Obapo fish - 2000|
After the withdrawal of the money, we gave my aunt 25,000 naira to use to get a pot which my mother asked her to get. The first item we went to buy was the bonga fish, when we got to the first place where we decided to get the fish we noticed that it was not the size we needed so we bought it somewhere else, at the market I noticed that I had to be careful not to get hit by a motorcycle or car. It was my first time going to buy such items in the market.
After that we went to buy the mod fish, after some time in the market we got to the sector where they sell all kinds of fish, the initial place we bought the bonga fish was close to the market. We bought the mod fish for 1,000 naira. At this sector where they sell fish, there was a place where they sell the required pot my mother wanted, when we got to the first place we didn't buy the pot due to the cost, the seller was telling us that it was 30,000 naira meanwhile the budget was 25,000 naira.
We bargained for the price, but the pot seller insisted that the lowest price was 28,000 naira which was really expensive. We went forward to buy the achi my mother was going to use to prepare the meal today. At the price of buying the achi, my anty also bought some onions. As we were about to move to the area where they sell meat we decided to buy Garri (cassava flakes). My uncle bought two painters which cost 3,600 because a single painter cost 1,800.
In the process of buying the Cassava flakes, my aunt rushed to buy another one which she would be using at home, that was another 1,800 naira making the total Garri we bought 5,400 naira. After doing that we went to buy the meat for 2,000 naira. The were a lot of meat sales but my uncle said he preferred to buy from the meat seller in my photo because he knew him, the previous time we came here which was last week my uncle bought okpa from a particular woman, I want to buy from someone else because I was hungry when we came last week.
But he said we should go back to the woman he usually buys from, the reason being that he doesn't know what others might be adding to their own okpa, and most importantly because he knew the woman very well. After we had bought the meat we had to check another seller to purchase the pot we needed. When we asked about the price of the pot the woman said that it was 25,000 naira but we asked for a discount of 5,000 naira and she said that she could only give us a discount of 2,000 naira after some talk we had to take the advantage of buying it for 23,000 naira instead of 28,000 naira.
We know when to buy a particular fish which was rare and that is the intent. We bought one of 1,000 naira, and we also made use of the opportunity to buy the obapo fish for 2,000 naira. The only things left were the hair brush and boxer for my little brother Richard, we looked for the boxer area and checked out the price which turned out to be 2,000 naira per single boxer, my mother told me not the buy a boxer which was above 1,000 naira so we left the place and looked for somewhere else.

I told my uncle that he should forget about the hair and boxer cuz I was tired 😩 and hungry after running around to buy the items. After my aunties bought a few things they needed when my uncle and I went home. When we got home my mother was pleased with what we had bought. And after checking everything we had bought she began to cook water leaf soup. It was quite a good shopping experience for me I got to know that my community's market is extremely big, my mother told me that I didn't even walk half the market, I was surprised that I didn't and I hope to do so next time.
Thanks to God my day was a success !!!
