Steemit Learning Challenge-S27W3; Physiofit; Regain Balance & Coordination Challenge"
Waking up every day without any problem in our body is a big blessing. I remembered during our school days my friend woke up and couldn't stand with her two legs. Yes . We thought it was a joke until she started crying non-stop. We have to help her to the nearest hospital before calling the parents. Could you believe what we thought was a joke became a partial stroke that she can't walk straight up till now. Chidinma lost her beautiful posture and balance.
My patient for this week traveled very far from home and came back with numbness of the leg . I will be performing this week's learning challenge with him as you can see below.
Task 1: You have to share your knowledge about balance, it's type, coordination and pathophysiology.
Balance is the ability of the body system to maintain its posture either when running , turning around or jumping. When we have a good balance it helps us to carry out our day-to-day activities.
Balance is very important because it involves some major part of our body such as the joints , muscles, nervous system and the brain.
Types of balance
- Static balance. This is one of the balance that we do while standing on one leg just like the leg lift squats.
Dynamic balance. This is maintaining our posture while in motion . You can notice or see this type of balance in tuning a corner or running.
Coordination simply means using different parts of our body to perform task efficiently and effectively , this act is very important in order to prevent injury during physical activities.
- pathophysiology. Since balance and coordination involves some major parts of the body like the brain and nervous system, this means the study of how these systems are functioning in order to know the exact steps to follow in correcting it is known as pathophysiology.
Task 2: You have to share a cause that lead to balance and coordination impairment. You can also share your history too if your suffer from any injury recently that is present with symptom of impairment of balance and coordination.
There so many causes that can lead to balance and coordination impairment ,they include
- Brain tumor.
- Stroke
- Eye problems
- Ear problem
- Alcohol
In the case of my patient , he is a young guy in his late thirties, he travelled to a very far distance that made him to sit for hours in the vehicle reaching his destination he was not able to carry his legs up like before. He was limping and finds it difficult to carry his legs up . When I saw this challenge I decided to try the exercise with him.
The cause according to my patient has not been ascertained by a medical professional, rather he guess it could be muscle pain resulting to seating for too long in the vehicle while traveling.
Task 3: It would be better if you treat the patient by performing above given physiotherapy management, share videos or pictures while performing and then review after getting treatment. (Try to use 2 methods).
Since the leg muscle were paining him we decided to carry out a back walk exercise. While I watched the back for him to avoid falling off the stair, he repeatedly back walked for some minutes before we proceeded to the single leg lift squats.
Note the leg muscle was truly painful, it was a bit difficult for him to carry his leg backwards.
- Single leg lift squats. I helped my patient to perform this exercise by standing on one of his leg while lifting the other leg pointing up, then squats up and down using hand forward stretch to gain balance.
Review from my patient
Frankly speaking, I wouldn't say he got an instant healing by regaining his balance and coordination, but he showed signs of good relief from the pain .
This is my entry for week 3, I'm inviting @mesola @jyoti-thelight @dasudi
