WHO WILL BE MY NEXT OF KIN?

Hey Steemians,

For this contest, I decided to make a short video talking about something a lot of us don’t usually think about — and that’s next of kin.

In the video, I shared what it means, why it’s important, who you can choose, and when you should change it. But I included a write up for those who will read.

What is "Next of Kin?

Your next of kin is simply the person who is closest to you, like your husband, wife, child, parent, or sibling. They’re usually the first person contacted if something serious happens to you, like an accident, illness, or even death.

Why It’s Important

A lot of people say, “Let me enjoy life and spend everything while I’m alive.”
Fair enough, life is short. But it’s also wise to think ahead.

If you don’t have a next of kin, it can be hard for your family.
Who will speak for you in an emergency?
Who will handle your things if something happens to you?
Who will arrange your burial or receive your money if there’s no will?

Who Should You Choose?

Pick someone you trust that's necessary, someone responsible, and someone who is easy to reach. It could be a close friend or family related.

And yes, you can always change your next of kin. If you get married, divorced, or no longer talk to the person you chose before. Just make sure the new one is recorded in the right places like your bank, hospital, workplace, or legal documents.
