Anche l'ultima piattaforma "elettrica" turca abbandona il paese.
Ne erano arrivate 4 un paio d'anni fa, aiutavano il derelitto sistema elettrico cubano a garantire almeno il minimo di corrente necessaria.
Due erano situate sulle acque dell'Avana, una a Santiago e l'altra, mi pare in qualche cajos o dalle parti di Varadero, non ricordo bene.

Quest'ultima rimasta nella capitale l'ho vista diverse volte, soprattutto quando il dueno della renta avanera, nottetempo, dal terminal Villanueva, mi portava in calle Cuba, passavamo proprio in moto davanti a dove la piattaforma mobile era ubicata.
Come dicevo ora ritirera' le ancore a bordo e tornera' in patria.

La ragione, anche se il governo ha usato parole differenti, e' che, pare, non siano arrivati i pagamenti necessari per la continuazione del servizio.
Puo' succedere che Russia, Messico, Venezuela, la Cina di meno, facciano delle donazioni di bastimenti di petrolio ma altri paesi, le loro imprese, vogliono essere pagate, non tutto sempre e' gratis.
Quindi questa piattaforma turca, ultima delle 4 originali, partira' e il paese vedra' aggravarsi la sua situazione, non so quali benefici la piattaforma garantiva ma il fatto che se ne vada non e' una gran cosa.

Cuba ha debiti non pagati con mezzo mondo, recentemente aveva ridiscusso il debito con il Club di Parigi di cui anche l'Italia fa parte, ridiscussione che era andata a buon fine.
Qualche anno fa Putin aveva di fatto cancellato il debito che il paese aveva con la vecchia Unione Sovietica, aveva concesso nuovi crediti ma come diceva il Principe De Curtis; "Ogni limite ha una pazienza".

Da qualche parte leggevo che la Telecom italiana ancora mette in bilancio il debito che l'isola ha con lei, ma su questo la mano sul fuoco non ce la metterei.
Il problema, oltre all'embargo, e' che sa ti fai la fama di cattivo pagatore e' difficile che poi qualche paese o qualche azienda ti faccia credito.
Voi prestereste del denaro a chi sapete che ha il vizio di non restituirlo?

Oramai se Cuba vuole acquistare qualcosa all'exterior prima deve fare il bonifico e poi la merce arriva, le linee di credito con la maggior parte dei paesi al mondo sono finite.
Non si puo' vivere sempre di regali, non si puo' programmare se dare o meno la corrente in funzione del barco, spesso regalato, che deve arrivare.

Avevo anche letto di un barco di petrolio che aveva attraccato di fronte al porto dell'Avana in acque cubane, aveva aspettato alcuni giorni che i soldi arrivassero al destinatario prima di scaricare il greggio.
La situazione e' questa ed il calo del turismo non aiuta di certo, speriamo che in qualche modo il paese riesca a togliersi da questa situazione.

TURKISH PLATFORM

The last Turkish "electric" platform is also leaving the country.
Four of them arrived a couple of years ago, helping Cuba's derelict electricity system ensure at least the minimum necessary power.
Two were located in the waters off Havana, one in Santiago and the other, I think in some cajos or near Varadero, I don't remember exactly.

I've seen the latter, which remained in the capital, several times, especially when the Havana renta dueno took me to Calle Cuba at night from the Villanueva terminal. We drove right past where the mobile platform was located.
As I said, it will now haul its anchors on board and return home.

The reason, although the government used different words, is that, apparently, the payments necessary for the continuation of the service have not arrived.
It may happen that Russia, Mexico, Venezuela, and China to a lesser extent, donate oil vessels, but other countries, their companies, want to be paid; not everything is always free.

So this Turkish platform, the last of the original four, will depart, and the country will see its situation worsen. I don't know what benefits the platform guaranteed, but its departure isn't a big deal.

Cuba has unpaid debts with half the world; it recently renegotiated the debt with the Paris Club, of which Italy is also a member, a renegotiation that was successful.

A few years ago, Putin had effectively cancelled the country's debt to the former Soviet Union and had granted new credit, but as Prince De Curtis used to say: "Every limit has its own patience."

I read somewhere that Telecom Italia still includes the island's debt with it in its balance sheet, but I wouldn't bet my life on that.
The problem, besides the embargo, is that if you get a reputation for being a bad payer, it's unlikely any country or company will extend you credit.
Would you lend money to someone you know has the habit of not paying it back?

Nowadays, if Cuba wants to buy something abroad, it first has to make the transfer and then the goods arrive; credit lines with most countries in the world have run out.
You can't always live on gifts; you can't plan whether or not to provide electricity based on the arrival of a ship, often a gift.

I also read about an oil ship that had docked off the port of Havana in Cuban waters; it had waited a few days for the money to reach its recipient before unloading the crude.
This is the situation, and the decline in tourism certainly isn't helping. Let's hope the country somehow manages to get out of this situation.
