Honestly, I don't know if I would have asked him for an explanation. I didn't know the guy at all before that day. He'd given me a bad impression, like "unbalanced" or something else, very inconsistent. He'd even asked me a couple of questions, but they didn't make sense, so I should take it with a pinch of salt...

A few minutes must have passed, not that long, when I heard noises coming from the upper floors. I was still on the ground floor, finishing cleaning the entrance windows. I couldn't quite make out the voices, until after a while everything stopped, the noise stopped, but in the meantime, almost immediately, I heard footsteps coming down the stairs...

It was that guy again, the one who had noticed I'd lost the money. As he approached, I could clearly see you had the money in your hand...

"I went to ask him for it, I told him the money wasn't his, that it was yours, that it wasn't right for him to keep it because you work hard and earn it. Here, what's right, is Right..."

I was honestly shocked. I didn't expect him to do this for me. He was truly a friend...

"I don't know how to thank you. What you did was truly a great thing, a beautiful gesture, really. Thank you, thank you so much. Listen, let's go get something at the bar. You've probably already had breakfast, an aperitif, a beer, whatever..."

"No, no, pretend I accepted. I just did what I thought was right. He's a strange, irritating, and even arrogant person. I absolutely didn't like the way he behaved, and I immediately realized that the money was yours. I couldn't let it end like this..."

I thanked him again, because he did, in my humble opinion, a truly great gesture, worthy of note and mention. I think I'll see that guy again, even though I'm not sure how long he'll be staying in that building. But he's certainly a foreign body, because he has nothing to do with the rest of the people, who are as honest and just as the guy who recovered my money...

Sinceramente non so se gli avrei chiesto delle spiegazioni, non conoscevo minimamente, prima di quel giorno, quel soggetto, mi aveva dato una brutta impressione, del tipo "squilibrato" o altro ancora, molto incostante, mi aveva pure chiesto un paio di cose, ma senza senso, per cui era da prendere con le molle...

Saranno passati alcuni minuti, non tanti, quando ho sentito dei rumori, provenire dai piani superiori, ero ancora al pianterreno, stavo finendo di pulire le vetrate d'ingresso, non riuscivo bene a distinguere le voci, finché dopo poco tutto terminò, fine dei rumori, ma nel frattempo sento quasi subito dei passi, che scendevano le scale...

Era ancora quel ragazzo, quello che si era accorto che avevo perso i soldi, come si avvicina vedo nitidamente che hai i soldi in mano...

"Sono andato a chiederglieli, gli ho detto che i soldi non erano i suoi, che erano i tuoi, che non era giusto che li tenesse lui perché te li sudi e te li guadagni, tieni, quello che è giusto, è giusto..."

Sono rimasto sinceramente interdetto, non mi aspettavo che facesse questa cosa per me, è stato veramente un amico...

"Non so come ringraziarti, quello che hai fatto è veramente tanto, un bellissimo gesto, davvero, grazie, grazie infinite, ascolta, andiamo a prendere qualcosa al bar, avrai già fatto colazione, un aperitivo, una birra, quello che ti pare..."

"No no, fai finta che ho accettato, ho fatto solamente quello che ritenevo giusto fare, è una persona strana, irritante e persino arrogante, non mi era piaciuto assolutamente come si era comportato, ed ho capito subito che quei soldi erano i tuoi, non potevo lasciare che andasse a finire così..."

L'ho ringraziato nuovamente, perché ha fatto, a mio modesto avviso, un grande gesto davvero, degno di nota e di menzione, penso che vedrò ancora quel tizio, anche se non ho capito bene per quanto tempo si fermerà in quella palazzina, ma di certo è un corpo estraneo, perché non c'entra nulla con il resto delle persone, che sono corrette e giuste come il ragazzo che ha recuperato i miei soldi...
