RE: Suicidio assistito 🇮🇹🇬🇧

I haven't seen your previous posts on this subject but it's a hot topic at the moment in the UK. A bill has recently passed through parliament to make "assisted dying" (as its called here) available under pre-determined conditions.

It's an extremely sensitive topic (as you rightly point out) and one that touches the-mrs-gorilla very closely (she works in palliative care). As with every subject nowadays, it encourages extreme viewpoints and emotions - anything "in-the-middle" is ignored.

I do think that if palliative (end of life) care was better funded and better understood, the need for assisted dying would be reduced. There's also the moral dilemma of who will perform the "death" or provide the necessary drugs / implementation. Not every doctor wants to do this and ("obviously") shouldn't be forced to so. Unfortunately in the UK, some cabinet ministers have threatened a removal of funding for hospices that don't want to take part in this... much like many ultimatums like this, will lead to some talented people leaving the profession.

A very sensitive topic.

Extremely. I suspect you chose the words used in your post as carefully as I chose mine in this comment.
