A very nutritious leafy vegetable with an attractive vine but much people ignore it here in my country

I can't remember when was the last time this leafy vegetable we locally call a "Alugbati" which is one of the best leafy vegetable to incorporate in a stir-fried or any vegetable dish or soups. It is commonly used by people who uses it in the Mungbean soup. It has an earthy taste and I find it delicious because of that although if you would taste it for the first time especially if you do not like vegetable dishes, you might not like it.

Leafy vegetables like this one like other leafy vegetables can raise your calcium oxalate levels which is why you can form a Kidney stone if you often eat it in large quantities that is. Well of course eat things in moderation, however the formation of Kidney stones can just be avoided if we will drink plenty of drinking water, and please drink filtered/purified water because we can get sick if we will always drink ordinary tap water, even water from deep well because of the level of pollution that our environment has currently considering that we drink water many times in a day.

Anyway, the Alugbati leaves are quite thick and very juicy, it is almost a succulent type of leaves in my opinion which is nice to eat cooked because it becomes very limp and soft and will not get trapped in-between your teeth when you eat them. It also grows well in any soil type but it needs water and like any other plants (or vegetables), when it is planted in rich soli, it makes big leaves.

The good thing about this vine vegetable is that it produces berries which have a pit or single seed inside which you can plant and grow. That is why this vegetable can survive as it produces many seeds. However, you can plant this vine by planting one section of the mature vine and it can grow as well with proper care. One vine can supply you an ample amount of nutritious leaves because it just grows and grows continuously. It is advisable that you give it a dedicated space for it to grow and thrive.
