On Giving a Personal Passion a Genuine Chance

in WORLD OF XPILARyesterday

One of the challenges of being interested in lots of different things — or, as I call it, "Too Many Interests Syndrome" — is that you seldom find yourself able to truly focus and give all your energy and attention to one thing to the point of creating a success.

While comparisons to others and their successes is typically not a good idea, I do find that whenever I am impressed with and slightly envious of a colleague's accomplishments — let's say, as an artist — it invariably turns out that the only thing they are doing is their art, while my art is one of maybe a dozen things I have going, on a given day; during a given month.

While there's an old truism about "not putting all your eggs in one basket," it's likely also possible to spread your proverbial "eggs" among too many baskets. Which is likely what I have been doing for most of my adult life.

People have told me — no doubt coming from a well-meaning place — that I must not have found something I am truly passionate about, if I haven't felt compelled to give it my all, to the exclusion of everything else... but, as a self-employed person, I always have to view such things through the lens of whether or not they are income producing.

Perhaps that's no more than a convoluted way of saying that I have little faith in the notion that the Universe will provide, if we take right action, and authentically follow our passions.

Just more justifications and rationalizations? Or a reflection of past tangible experiences?

Not that important, I suppose. Lately, however, I have increasingly been drawn towards pursuing my artwork at a more serious level... perhaps because so many other things seem to be fading away.

During the past couple of years, my work as an editor, writer and proofreader is slowly being taken over by various forms of AI, and I'm pretty sure there will be little left in another five years or so. Another profession simply gone.

So, I have increasingly been thinking about putting more time and effort into my artwork and seeing where it goes... because it is one of the things I do feel passionate about, and it's something that is already here, as opposed to taking on something completely new.

I already know from arts and crafts shows that people really like the work, so it's mostly about marketing... and spending more time creating.

To be honest, it is something I have been wanting to do for a while but I have been hesitant because of the constant pressure to generate income.

Time will tell how it works out!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great remainder of your week!
