The Weight of Worn Energy

There is something you should know about me before we go any further: I am a sock-shoe, sock-shoe kind of person. Not every day, but often enough to raise eyebrows. And if you are one of those sock-sock, shoe-shoe types, I can already feel your judgement from here. Don’t worry, I forgive you - can you do the same?! Haha!

The way I move through my days and “life” in general, is sprinkled with these little rituals, these “non-negotiables” that might seem strange to others but make perfect sense to me. Like leaving shoes at the door. If you shouted a little “whoohoo” just now, welcome to the club… we see the world through the same doorway, haha!

For me, it is not just about muddy shoes on the tiles. It’s about what those shoes have carried and where they have been: every step across a mall floor buzzing with strangers’ moods, every queue, every meeting, every too long conversation you didn’t have the energy for but had anyway. Shoes are little collectors of life’s residue. I am all for collecting memories, but I am a whole lot less keen on collecting that sort of baggage, lol.

Which brings me to one of my favourite daily rituals: the evening shower!! The “wash off the day” shower, where the hot water doesn’t just rinse the grit off your skin, it rinses the heaviness off your spirit. I swear, I can feel my body sigh in relief when that first stream of water hits.

I am ridiculously sensitive to energy. Always have been. Walk into a tense room and I’m immediately itchy to leave. Spend too long in a draining environment and it clings to me like smoke. So the shower isn’t just hygiene, it is exorcism by water, haha!

And water doesn’t need my PR skills. We know it heals. It refreshes. It transforms. It’s ancient and alive and endlessly forgiving. Some days I think it holds us together more than we even realise.

It’s the same reason I can’t re-wear jeans for more than a day unless the day that came with them was spectacular. Good energy gets a free pass. Mediocre? Sorry, back in the wash you go. Call it dramatic, I call it survival.
And just before anyone starts circling with straight jackets… tell me, honestly - is there anything in this world quite like climbing into bed with freshly washed linen? Crisp, cool sheets that remind you that life is, actually, quite wonderful? By day four, the magic fades. Don’t lie to yourself… you know I am right!! Haha!

Maybe I sound a little obsessive. Maybe I am. But I have come to the realisation that it is not about the socks or the sheets or even the shoes at the door. It’s about the way we guard our energy. The way we learn, over time, to create small rituals that keep us light, centred, and joyful.

Our wild and wandering walk through life is this constant exchange. As we meander along our way, we absorb, we release, we carry and we let go… and energy is at the heart of it all! Every single thing we do!! The more aware we are of that reality as well as “flow”, the more alive we begin to feel in our own skin.

So in my opinion, a hot shower and clean sheets aren’t small luxuries. They are my daily revolutions. They remind me that regardless of what the day (or life in general) has thrown at me, I can always end it on a lighter note. That is a “moment” every single day which I will never take for granted.
