Greetings, WOX friends, I'm sharing with you some shots of an insect that took me by surprise. I stumbled upon it in the garden while picking some roseberries (Rubus niveus).

The 4 selected close-ups

Photo N° 1 Giant Stink Bug (Acanthocephala femorata)

Suddenly, among the leaves and a group of unripe fruits, I noticed something moving. At that moment, I saw it was enormous and got scared. It's a species of giant stink bug.

As soon as I moved the blackberry plant where it was perched, it released its characteristic and repulsive odor. Fortunately, it was outdoors and the wind blew away the unpleasant smell. This is its way of defending itself when it feels threatened.

Photo N° 3

This insect was about 3 centimeters long, but between its legs and antennae, it appeared to be enormous. However, they are "phytophagous" animals, meaning they suck plant sap with a long tube, and I had the impression it had been sucking on that still-green blackberry.

Still, it stayed fairly still for a while, allowing me to crouch down and get the best shot. After a while, it decided to take flight and left. The encounter was interesting, and I like to imagine it realized it wasn't in any danger.
