Big Impact of Little Acts
When we talk about doing good, a lot of people think about it as some grand gestures like building orphanages, building schools, donating millions to the community, etc. These gestures are good and powerful, without any doubt, but most times, good deeds that are relevant might just be simple, smaller, and more personal. Some of these seemingly small acts can create massive impact than we can even imagine. You will be surprised that something as little as a kind word, a warm smile, a helping hand, or even lending someone a listening ear, can change the person's day positively and give them reasons to live for.

One of the adorable things about the little acts of goodness is that they are within the reach of everyone. That is, you will not have to think that you need to attain a level of financial buoyancy or certain material possession before you show kindness or goodness. You do not have to be rich, influential, famous, or even in a leadership position or a place of authority before you make a difference. As a junior secondary school student for example, you can share your lunch with a fellow student who has none, and it will make so much impact in them. As a stranger, you might be seated in a bus and an elderly person enters the bus standing. You can stand up for them and offer them a seat. This gesture might not cost you anything but it can have a great impact on the person.
In the world we live in now, where everyone is busy with one thing or the other, there are some gestures that you will show someone and they will brighten their day and even restore hope to them. I remember sometimes ago. There was this neighbour, in the place where I lived before. She lives alone and she is elderly. I normally see her on the way out in front of her house, and we used to greet. But that day, I did not see her, so while coming back, I decided to knock on her door to check up on her. I knocked but she was not answering. I concluded that maybe she was not around.
Just when I was about leaving, I looked at the bolt and it was not locked from outside. Which means that she was in the house, so I knocked harder. When she was not answering, I peeped through the window and saw her on the floor. I raised alarm and called for help. People came and the door was forced open. She was on the floor fighting for survival. She was rushed to the hospital where she was stabilized. It was later discovered that she had a health challenge that sent her to shock and whatnot. But the timely intervention was what saved her life. Now Imagine if I did not bother to check up on her, she would have remained at that spot for long or something worse might have even happened to her. Small gestures can actually save life.
One very important thing you have to understand about good deeds is that they have contagious quality. That is, if someone experiences an act of goodness from someone, they are more likely to also extend goodness to others.

A person who is helped today has a tendency of helping others tomorrow, and the chain of kindness continues. I remember when I went for a camp sometimes ago, when it was time for lunch, we went to buy food. The guy behind me reached out for his wallet, only to discover that he left it in the dormitory. So I paid for his food. Surprisingly, the next day, he paid for 3 extra people. The kindness I showed him prompted him to extend it to others.
We have an incredible ability within us to make a difference, but a lot of people underestimate this ability because they think that they cannot offer much. You do not need to offer much to make an impact. A little glass of water you give to a thirsty traveller who has been waiting for bus at the bus-stop on a sunny day can make a whole lot of difference. At any point that you are, there will definitely be something within your reach that you can use to show kindness and make a difference in the life of someone, and by extension, to the world.
