Your Mind As A Garden: Cultivate It Daily
While growing up, I once had a mini garden where we stayed. I planted a few seeds, which I tendered daily. Before going to school, I would take a look at it, then when I came back, I would still go to look at it, and I watered it regularly. I watched the seed through various stages and progresses involved in germination, growing, flowering, and fruiting, and they were adorable to behold. What started as tiny seed, with time and with relevant actions, later became a plant, and brought forth fruits. This same thing is applicable to the mind - every thought that you entertain in your mind is like a seed. Then the words you speak will nurture the seed, just the same way you need to water the seeds in a garden. Then the actions you take in line with the thought is like the necessary farm practices you take on your garden.

If you have ever seen a farmer tender for his crops, you will see the intentionality he puts into it. In the same way, you have to be intentional in the kind of thoughts you permit in your mind on a daily basis, because they will become dominant over time, and will influence a very many parts of your life including your words, character, actions, and attitude. Learning is the way to cultivate your mind. The more you learn new things, the more you see the world and things from a different perspective. There are more things to learn that you do not even know about. This is why I believe that there is no limit and no end to what can be learnt. As a matter of fact, the more you learn, you will discover that you have known very little.
In a garden for example, it is what you have planted that will grow and you will harvest from it. In the same way in your mind, the thoughts that you cultivate will determine your speech, your actions, and many other things about you, including the result you get from life. Each day you read, you interact, you relate with people, your practise, you ask questions, etc, you are cultivating your mind. All these are part of what forms who you are. The little small efforts here and there, will become powerful determinants of how your life will turn out.

It is worthy to note that consistency of actions is also very important to manifest the thoughts and the ideas you have created in your mind. You cannot water your garden just once in a while and expect to have a good harvest during the harvest season. In the same way, your thoughts, the actions you take on them, feeding your mind with positive thoughts and useful knowledge, gathering new experiences, etc, all these have to be done daily. The world keeps changing as new things emerge daily. In the same way, your knowledge will also have to be updated daily, so that you will not be outdated. Your relevance in this highly competitive world is a direct function of your level of knowledge and the information you possess.
When you try to learn something new each day, over time, you will be surprised how adorable your life will become. This must not necessarily be related to your field, it can be from other fields too - the idea is to have a broader knowledge about life, and not to be limited to just one field. At the end of each day, just pause a while to reflect on what you have learnt for the day; this will give you an idea if the day was well spent or not. The more knowledge you have, the more you grow, and the easier it will be to face and overcome the challenges of life. A lot of the challenges that people face today are born out of ignorance. Once you gain extensive knowledge about something, it will become easy to gain mastery over it. Remember that if you must make progress in life, then you have to understand that knowledge is an indispensable factor in achieving it.
