Kaunia Railway Station was established by the British government in 1906 and since then it has become a junction. A total of 28 trains operate from Kaunia Railway Junction in different directions.Four of these intercity trains operate

There are four notable intercity and local trains operating at Kaunia Junction: Kurigram Express, Lalmoni Express, Burimari Express, and Rangpur Express.Two more trains run intercity but they are not directly connected to Dhaka. One is the Karatoya Express which runs up to Santahar. The other is the Dolanchapa Express which runs from Panchagarh, the last station in North Bengal.

This railway station junction is the busiest railway junction. Mail trains run on this route. Working people from the northern region travel mostly by this mail train.
