Real serving is a selfless act
Have you ever thought of what it takes to really serve. Serving is something done from a stand point of selflessness. I am talking about real serving of others.
When we serve others from a standpoint of selflessness, there could be many angles to this but it could be very rewarding and fulfilling especially for someone who loves to be of help to others.
So the last week has been a very eventful one for me, some months ago, one of my mentors reached out to me and told me that he wanted me to act as a VA (virtual assistant) for him for one of his conferences coming up this August.
I told him that I needed to think about it and also get permission from the people I work with to grant me permission for leave that period which obviously worked out. Well, I thought at most I was going to be just a week or two gone but things seem to take another turn when he asked if I could extend my stay for almost one month.
That’s gonna be alot of sacrifice of my part I said but I was willing to give it a try. It’s gonna be one month is running up and down and being at someone’s else’s neck and call. I had done this in the past and believe me it’s quiet tasking. Sometimes I get so hooked into serving that I forget myself.
The whole event took a turn when I learnt that I’d be with two persons this time around. Well, serving one is a lot from my experience, how much more two. It could be done, I just have to buckle up. I had to travel all the way from Lagos to Abuja. It wasn’t an easy journey as I spent almost all the day on the road. I left my house by past 5am and got to my destination by past 10pm almost 11pm in the night.
I was knackered but what can a woman do. I had the next day to rest before I started by trip down to another part of town where the event was to hold. I booked uber and it took me to where I was to stay with one of the people who came into the country for the event.
Well, that was were the roller coaster of experience started. The thing there is that I’d have to shuttle in between serving two people. My mentor and his sister. Both of them came into the country together. I had only met her once and we didn’t bond much but this time was another time of bonding and she was so lovely to be with.
Well, the weekend was totally booked and we are going to have a serious time of work. The event was a spiritual meeting and we had people from different parts of the state come in. Just alittle bit of what I do.
I had to ensure that the two parties had their clothes sorted out, what to eat, drink and also ensure that they get ready for the meeting on time. Here’s the catch. I have to get ready too and ensure that I join them for the meeting. So you see it’s about proactivenness and proficiency.
Well, at the end of the day, I am always very tired and I also have to join a family online prayer going on on Whatsap and I literally have to on while still trying to get them settled into the night. Most times the prayers finishes late into the night and I go to bed late and ready to wake up early.
At some point I got so stressed that I almost thought I was gonna faint. I needed a breather. Well, someone will ask why all these stress, what’s in it for you?
If you ask me too, I don’t even know, all I know is that I love to serve and whenever I serve others, I feel fulfilled and happy. That’s why I said it’s a selfless act and along the line, you may feel used especially if the people you are serving are not appreciating your efforts or if you have hope of getting something in return and your hope is been dashed. Well for me I started this journey without any entitlements in mind and if the appreciation comes, good. If it doesn’t, I am okay too because, I believe that posterity has a way of rewarding us for every good deed we do.
So when next you find yourself in a position to serve, do it selflessly.
