Prarthana Bodhiya

So, here I mention a place that we visit often. It is Prarthna Bodhiya, located at Kirindigala, Balangoda, Sri Lanka.
It is a very famous Buddhist religious site in Balangoda. Not like the other Buddhist temples, here there is only the Bo tree. But the other religious places normally have these Stupa and statue houses for worship.
Normally, people start to come to the Prarthana Bodhiya at dawn, especially on Poya days and weekends. The atmosphere is beautiful with mist. People normally bring flowers, incense sticks, oil lamps, and milk food (The food prepared using coconut milk).

Worshipers normally meditate or chant Buddhist gaths. Others walk slowly around the tree in a clockwise direction, carrying a fully filled water pot. Normally, people walk slowly 7 rounds around the Bo tree. In this scenario, some people walk one round and pour the water into the Bo tree, and start another round, and continue it until 7 rounds. While the others were carrying one water pot and going on seven rounds.
Actually, the simplicity makes this place so special.
Some people believe that this Bo tree is a sapling from the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura. The tree still stands tall and graceful. Also, the silence in this place is so powerful. We can hear the sound of the Bo leaves and birds singing clearly.
Families also come here not only to worship, but also to feel the calm atmosphere. We also always try to visit this place to feel a great and calm atmosphere at this place.

But this place also becomes very crowded sometimes. That happens mostly during national examination days in Sri Lanka, such as the grade 5 scholarship examination, the Ordinary level examination, and the Advanced level examination. However, it is recommended to visit Prarthana Bodhiya in the early morning and the early evening.
