The Social Media Paradox
When talking of two-faced swords, social media should always come to your mind because we can see how important it is in the modern world and also how deadly it has grown. The users are taking things too extreme which has led to the depression of other users and has also caused a lot of trouble for group of people.
Is social Media a Legit news source site? |
---|
The crime rate in social media increased when monetization was introduced to it, users were now pressured to create a lot of content without thinking about how legit the informations are. Gone are the days where huge cases would die off without people being aware, any case that happens is now recorded and posted online which can reach thousands of audience.
Many content creators use decisive Titles to drag the readers attention, some people might just zoom off with the first info and possibly spread them while not getting the details. One case I noticed was when a news popped on my notification bar, it said "Dangote is Dead", in my country we all know Dangote, one of the richest man in Africa, I was just shocked to look at that and I told my friend was was beside me, that I read an info which said Dangote is Dead. I clicked on the news and I had an expanded view of it, this is when I saw that it is a Dangote non of us knows about, the poster just has to sync it just to get the clicks.
I mostly follow legit content creators with good contents, so all these upcoming creators will always come up with something similar but false, I always request to see videos than believing in written texts. Many users are always asking for videos after any claim is made, which will help them know how truthful the post is, to avoid being fooled.
Do you use social media to study or learn something? |
---|
This age is just too easy to learn anything, the only problem killing us is procrastination. After my lectures in engineering, we will be given lectures on some practical courses and we don't get to understand it. Like the topic "Metallurgy" which was treated last semester was somehow difficult to understand, with the aid of YouTube I saw videos of how this Metallurgy was carried, the processes and the end product. The lessons were greater than what I learnt that day. In my exams hall, the videos and images of how some metallurgical processes were done just reflected in my mind an it made it easier.
I also learnt more about steemit using WhatsApp, I had video calls with my mentor as I shared my screen and followed the processes he explained to carry out some tasks. I have learnt a lot using this social media.
What is more important to you when using social media: knowledge or entertainment, and why? |
---|
I have made preference to Mostly Entertainment, I would say I have used my social media mostly for entertainment purposes, I watch a lot of reels on Facebook just for entertainment, but some videos come with valuable knowledge and lessons so I would say I have gotten valuable lessons social media too. The most important to me is using it to understand what my lecturer was trying to explain. I have learnt how to edit photos using tutorials from YouTube and also learnt how to use certain apps by just searching on a tutorial.
Are you worried about the time you spend on social media? |
---|
Even my hand is used to getting to Facebook, I would just turn on my phone and my fingers will just turn on data, I will navigate to Facebook and keep myself updated. I'm not worried about how I spend my time on social media, most things now are based social media, any school info is spread using social media, so if you just decide to stay off your socials for the day, you'll be shocked that a test was written already. I am very okay with how I use social media because I also have time for other things not only social media.
Conclusion |
---|
Social Media has helped build a lot of young people and has also turned them to multi-millionaires, at the same time it has defrauded people of millions which makes this victims commit suicide. We should always be careful out there and we should watch every click we make inorder not to fall into the wrong hands.

The Social Media Paradox highlights how platforms meant to connect people often lead to feelings of isolation. While users seek validation and engagement, they may instead encounter comparison and anxiety. Advanced tech like the Holobox Display enhances digital interaction by projecting realistic 3D images, offering a more human-like presence online. Yet, even such immersive tools can't fully replace authentic, face-to-face connection. Social media allows for global reach, but sometimes at the cost of real intimacy.
