The Diary Game [08/09/2025] // Back to School Preparations

Steem greetings guys from the motherland of Cameroon and welcome to my blog for another session of my diary. This day was all about getting ready for school, and oh boy, what a day it was. It started early, with the sound of rain tapping gently against the windows. I woke up and just laid there for a moment, listening to it. It felt peaceful, but also made me realize that we had a lot to do and none of it was going to wait just because the weather decided to be moody.

After breakfast, we jumped into the car, and that’s when the real adventure began. The rain had gotten heavier, and the roads were slippery. Everything outside the car looked blurry through the water-streaked windows. I stared out as we passed palm trees bending slightly in the wind, shops with their shutters still down, and a few brave souls walking with umbrellas. The whole town looked sleepy and wet, like it wasn’t ready for the day to begin.

Our first stop was at the market. We had a checklist of school stuffs to buy raging from notebooks, pens, pencils, rulers, new socks, and of course, snacks for lunch boxes. The market was a little chaotic with people dodging puddles, vendors calling out prices, and kids everywhere tugging on their parents’ hands. I got everything that was required of me as a parent and the kids were excited to resume school wearing uniform for the first time.

After the shopping rush, we went to get my daughter’s hair done which is always a big deal before school starts. Fresh cornrows braids are a must neat, clean, and ready to last through at least the first few weeks. Sitting in the salon took hours, but I could not withstand it anymore given the fact that I had other commitments to met up with time. I decided to do the hair at home and it saved us some cash😃.

When I completed the hair, she looked in the mirror and smiled. The hair was done in neat, curved lines, braided tightly back into a little ponytail held with a pink scrunchie. It looked perfect, and I felt proud. There’s something powerful about getting your hair done right it makes you feel like you can take on anything.

By the time I was done plaiting, the rain had slowed to a drizzle. I helped pack my kids backpack, labeled all their supplies, and even ironed their uniforms. I kept reminding them not to lose anything this year and to keep the books neat. We laid everything out; shoes polished, socks paired, and the uniform hanging neatly on a hanger.

After a stressful day, I freshly showered, and oiled my daughter’s hair. There’s always something special about the night before school starts. A mix of nerves and hope. I wonder how my kids gonna feel or look like in a school uniform for the fist time. Whatever happens, I feel they are ready to kick start the new academic year. Rain or sun shine, tomorrow’s a new beginning and I wish them the best and God’s protection. Until my next diary session, it is goodnight from my end.

Be careful on the road, sis. Now it's the rainy season, it's slippery😁
