Steem Cameron Contest: Best Day of the Week -28th March, 2025

This day of the week was joyous, full of excitement that was appealing to the eye and gladdening to the heart. I attended the cultural day celebration in my daughter's school. Attending such event reminded me of the need for us to embrace our individual culture, promoting them while we learn about others to gain insight, seeing the diversities as a symbol of unity and strength instead of disconnect.

The essence for such important event was to make the children to be aware of their cultural heritage, nurturing them with the mindset of cultural diversity, propagating their own culture while understanding other people culture by way of tolerance, acceptance taking note of individuality embracing diversity.

There were the display of culture from the different ethnic groups. Such as Housa, Yoruba, Igbo( Major), Ibibio, Efik Annang , Edo (minority groups) etc, From the three major known groups to the minor ones. The children were swapped from thier original tribe to other tribes. They learn new things from the new tribe ranging from the dialect, food, dress code, greetings, occupations, dancing steps, words and numbers.

Parents and guests witnessed cultural presentations and dances by the different tribes. Show time was set for the parents to dance in celebration of culture with the children. This was when the event took another turn as many parents including my very self danced and forgotten myself in different styles. Sir Wilker Jackson High Life Music took a sway of the moment. I was really happy making the day best day of the week for me, joy of motherhood and seeing my little daughter of yesterday dressing in her cultural attire was amazing to behold.

The day was full of fun, we took pictures, had separate parents dance with the school's management as contest to pick the best dancer, and I didn't fall among three meaning I didn't win. But I was very happy seeing myself as a parent so I danced the sweat out of me.

Frankly, this day was the best day in the week for me, I took pleasure in seeing children being taught that no culture is superior to another rather they should embrace diversity as a Pillar of strength for growth and unity. Learning about each others culture give the children sufficient knowledge about the way of life of others. The language they speak, the kind of food and the mode of dressing.

My best day of the week remained a memorable one. I had the chance to see children learning about their cultural heritage, and also learn about other people's culture through the display of artistic activities giving them a new sense of understanding, tolerance, respect, acceptance, unity and love.
