EARLY LIFE

Darren Julius Garvey Sammy, born in 20 December 1983, is a St. Lucian cricketer who plays international cricket for the West Indies. Darren Sammy was born in Mycade, Wilson Sammy and Clara Sammy in St. Lucia. He is a two-time T20 World Cup winning captain. After making his ODI debut against Bangladesh in 2004, Sammy played his first international cricket from St. Lucia Island.

BEGINNING OF CAREER

3 years later, Sammy made his Test debut against England by taking 66, which was the best bowling performance for a West Indian in the first Test since Alf Valentine in 1950. In October 2010, Sammy was appointed captain of the West Indies. He made his Test debut in May 2012 against England. On October 2, 2001, at the age of 17, Darren Sammy topped the list. Playing in the Red Strip Bowl for the Northern Windward Islands against Jamaica, he bowled nine overs without taking a wicket and scored 25 before being run out as his team. To overcome. In three matches, Sammy scored his team's second highest score of 90, [10] and took one wicket. Sammy was a member of the West Indies squad for the 2002 Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand; He has scored 22 runs and taken three wickets.

STARTING OF ONE DAY CAREER

After a successful domestic season, where Sammy finished as Windward Islands' second highest wicket-taker in the regional four-day competition with 22 scallops and 261 runs, he was the only player selected in the 15-member West Indies squad for the NatWest. Triangular ODI International Series with England and New Zealand in June 2004. Sammy's English experience was credited with his selection: In 2003, he played for Burns Cricket Club in the Middlesex Premier Cricket League. He later won the West Indies' first cap under adverse conditions. The West Indies match against New Zealand was abandoned without a single ball in the Rose Bowl due to heavy rain. However, the captains had already finished the toss and counted the fixtures on the ICC record as Sammy's first match.
In September, Sammy returned to the senior squad to replace 22-year-old Jamaican fast bowler Jermaine Lawson, who moved away from the Champions Trophy squad with a structure at the bottom of his back. At the age of 20, Sammy became the first international cricketer to emerge from St. Lucia. Returning to the Rose Bowl in his first game, Sammy took 1 for 19 in six overs (1/19) and the West Indies took three catches as they beat Bangladesh by 136 runs. This is the only match Sammy has played in the tournament. The Windies beat England in the final match to win the trophy.

When the West Indies toured India in January 2007, Sammy was included in the squad for a Test debut. However, shortly before the team left, he suffered an injury that ruled him out of the tour. After the set-back, Sammy traveled to England in April and May where he played in the Central Lancashire League before touring the West Indies in May. He was selected in the visiting team. This time the team has won the NetWest limited overs series. And the 23-year-old St. Lucian won his first Test cap in the third Test at Old Trafford in June. He claimed his first Test wicket when he dismissed Alastair Cook, known as Dwayne Bravo, but his first innings was unforgettable for his economy, giving up just 1.88 runs in 17 overs.

In the second innings, although Sammy caught England captain Michael Vaughan in his own bowling, England's score was 99/2. In his 17th over, he outscored Ryan by Ian Bell. The next ball was in the same way to Matt Prior. Several balls later, on the same score, he dismissed Liam Plunkett, who was caught by Bravo. Five wickets went, four Sammy, three off five balls. He continued his great debut by taking the wickets of Steve Harmison and Monty Panesar, trailing Paul Collingwood by seven wickets for 66 runs. His bowling figure was the best at Old Trafford after Malcolm Marshall's // 22 in 1978, and Alf Valentine made his debut for a West Indian in 1950 with 8-102.

All-rounder Sammy did not glorify himself on this tour, unbeaten twice at an average of just 14.20 from 10 innings. His tenth highest team on the tour was in matches against Scotland and the Netherlands. As a bowler, he averaged a team average of 17.72, 18 wickets (third of the team) from 93.5 overs (18 wickets more than Sammy).

T-20 INTERNATIONAL

Sammy led the West Indies to the 2012 World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka. For the first time in a long time, the West Indies were considered a realistic contender for the title, given how the team has matured under Sammy's tutelage. However, as a private player, he came under scrutiny in the tournament. On the journey from the group stage to the final, Sammy contributed 27 runs with the bat from four creases and an overall bowling figure of 2/125 and was much criticized because many thought he was putting out better players. In the final, however, when the most important, Sammy scored an unbeaten 2 off 15 balls and took two main wickets to help his team start slowly and beat Sri Lanka.

In April 2016, a cricket ground near the St. Lucia Gross Islet, Beaujolais Cricket Ground, with a seating capacity of 15,000, was renamed Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium. This was done after Darren Sammy captained the West Indies to India to win their second World Cup title for the second time in the 2016 edition of the ICC World Twenty20 in India. In August of 2011, Sammy was ruled out as T20 captain and the Windies selectors said he was not getting a place in the West Indies squad. Carlos Brathwaite replaced him for the T20 leadership role. In August 2017, he was named in the World XI for playing three Twenty20 internationals against Pakistan in the Independence Cup in Lahore.

Sammy was announced as the franchise player of the 2013 tournament at the start of the Caribbean Premier League. Sammy played professionally for Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League and was made the captain of that franchise in 2014. He was released in Hyderabad for the 2015 edition and was later signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Kings XI Punjab then selected him for the 2017 tournament. The all-rounder offered honorary Pakistani citizenship in response to a special request from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, Priv Khattak, for the oppressive ownership of Peshawar, which Sammy accepted. Sammy played for Peshawar Zalmir in the inaugural Pakistan Super League in 2011. In the PSL draft of 2016 PS, he held on to Peshawar Zalmi. During the draft, captain Shahid Afridi made a startling announcement to name Sammy as the new captain of Peshawar. Sammy as his popular captain, the club won the second edition of the Pakistan Super League in 2017.

Playing Style

Sammy is popularly known for his characteristic hitting, imposing physique, and timing. He attributes the latter to being very skinny when young, and having a heavy bat. Gayle is known for appearing very calm as the bowler approaches. "Tall and imposing at the crease, he loves to carve through the covers off either foot, and has the ability to decimate the figures of even the thriftiest of opening bowlers" recorded Wisden and ESPNcricinfo. He holds various records that reflect his batting style, which is including record Twenty20 strike-rates and high scores. He said, "It is instinct... We premeditate at times, but most of those things are instinct. When a fast bowler runs in to me, my breathing is controlled. So you keep a still head, slow down your breathing. Sometimes I actually hold my breath, so I can be as still and well-balanced as possible. If you get too excited, you overreact more, and with the adrenalin, you lose focus quickly."
