CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers

The CONCACAF qualifiers have gotten very complicated. There is no clarity as to which three teams will qualify directly to the World Cup or which three teams will have to go to the next stage for placing in second place. We do have two teams that are basically out. Nicaragua and Bermudas. Nicaragua still has a chance of making it to the next round but their probabilities of making it are very, very slim. So we have three teams in two groups and four in another that have hopes of making it to the World Cup. Yes, Jamaica and Honduras are in the best shape of all, but they all still have to play two more games. Honduras, my country is in a very strange position, if they win against Nicaragua and Haiti and Costa Rica draw in Curazao (Haiti has to play there as Port au Prince is for now closed to international competitions) we are qualified, but if CR or Haiti win, then nothing is finished.

In group B Jamaica has the lead but Trinidad seems to be playing better so I can not predict anything. I do think Jamaica and Curazao will qualify here. Group A is right now the most difficult, Panama and Surinam lead but only one point away from Guatemala, and both of them have to visit Guatemala, so I think the home team advantage has something to play here. El Salvador has little chace of making it, but if they win their two pending games they might get to the next round.

I am frankly not overly optimistic about Honduras making it directly to the World Cup, but at least, due to the position thery are in, they can still lose against Nicaragua in Nicaragua and still have a shot, a win against Costa Rica in the final game still leads to the World Cup.
