The Trophies Walk Away | The World of Sports
Arsenal's Champions League exit at the hands of PSG was deeply frustrating, and truthfully, it feels like we left the fight too late. That first-leg defeat - both in scoreline and in spirit - cost us dearly. We looked flat and uninspired when it mattered most. The second leg showed some intent, but in this competition, you can’t afford to wake up only after falling behind. It’s a painful way to go out, especially knowing we had the quality to do more.
What adds salt to the wound is how this mirrors our dip in the league. We're still battling for second place when, by now, we should’ve at least had that wrapped up. Liverpool secured the title two weeks ago, and instead of applying pressure or keeping pace, we’ve faltered. And to make matters worse, watching the same Bournemouth team that beat us at the Emirates last week lose at home to Villa today was just annoying - Villa played the last 15 minutes with 10 men. That win - combined with City’s draw against Southampton earlier today — could’ve meant we’d only need three more points from our final three games to clinch second. Instead, we’re making it hard for ourselves.
The boys tried, no doubt about that, but they’ve chosen the wrong time to run out of steam. Big teams show up when the stakes are highest, and sadly, we’ve stumbled just when it mattered most. The potential was there, but right now, we’re left with nothing but regrets and what-ifs.
I'm hearing that you've signed Zubimendi for next season. If true, that's going to be a massive boost and allow Declan Rice a more advanced role alongside Odegaard.
Just the minor point of a world class striker and the puzzle will be complete. If you get that, 2025/26 could be your season!
As much as the sound of Zubimendi's arrival gives exciting vibes, I won't let them bait me again with early signings, only not to sign in the most needed position 😂
We saw same last season.
Been hearing news of advanced talks with Gyokeres. While he's not my most preferred, I'd take anything at this time, after all, how many proven strikers are out there.
