Awww, poor Goose-Duck! Love the photo of him sitting on the dog, though. Would it help to put a screen over top of that cistern? It would probably just turn into the perfect mosquito breeding ground.
You might appreciate this photo of the pelicans I took last summer. Look closely at the left side and you'll see Pelican-Duck. He's seriously out-beaked.
It would definitely help to cover it. I have tried several times with no luck. I will have to build something and figure out how to attach it. It is a major mosquito incubator! We put mosquito dunks in it to help with that. When there's still enough water for the birds to play in it, they take care of most of the larvae.
