I’m a suburbanite with no actual experience raising an animal as anything but a pet, but for what it’s worth, from what I’ve read and heard on podcasts, you might want to explore quail as an alternative to chickens.
I like quail, although I've never had any. I like chickens too, though, seeing as I have had them. If anyone would like to give a +/- comparison to chicken vs quail I would love to hear it!
