RE: China Uncensored: 20 Years Later, Is This The Death Of Hong Kong?

in #hong-kong8 years ago

The CCP has basically said it has no intention of honoring the handover agreement and the "one country, two systems" principle. I for one am not surprised at all. HK represents a major threat to the Communist regime and the status quo on the mainland. History has taught us the lengths the CCP will go to in order to stay in power.

I absolutely agree, but the CCP has to be careful how they oppress HK. If the rest of China senses a hint of weakness and unfair oppression from the CCP, there is no way the CCP would be able to hold together an entire nation in mutiny.

It's hard to say what will happen. As long as the people are comfortable and have jobs, they will just let the government do what it does. Since the media is so heavily censored, it's doubtful the people would even know about oppression in HK.

Absolutely. This is why China makes sure that they have their bread and circus. As long as their bellies are full and their minds are distracted, the people will never stand up.

I used to feel that way about the United States, but people have awakened.
