The Wali Nanggroe of Aceh, His Excellency Tgk. Malik Mahmud Al Haythar, expressed his appreciation to Russian President Vladimir Putin for the opportunity given to Aceh to participate in the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) 2025 in Vladivostok.

This statement was made during an interview with Argumenty i Fakty (AiF) – one of Russia's most popular media outlets since the Soviet era – on the sidelines of a series of EEF activities on Friday, September 5, 2025.

In the interview, Wali Nanggroe emphasized Aceh's strategic position at the crossroads of international sea routes, as well as its rich natural resources. He mentioned the oil and gas potential in the northern and western regions, plantation products, and superior commodities such as Gayo coffee and patchouli oil.

"Gayo coffee has penetrated the American and European markets, while patchouli oil has become an important commodity, with France as the main buyer. We need proper marketing, increased production, and wider distribution," he said.

Furthermore, Wali Nanggroe also highlighted the fisheries, tourism, and maritime sectors, which are considered to have the potential to become international attractions, ranging from tropical beaches and small islands to large waves suitable for surfing.

Aceh's presence at the EEF, he said, is the first step in strengthening relations with Russia. He emphasized Aceh's interest in Russian investment, technology, and experience in industrial development and urban planning.

"Our main goal at the forum is to open up opportunities for cooperation with Russian energy companies, particularly regarding the transportation of gas from Sakhalin through Aceh to other countries," he added, as conveyed by Wali Nanggroe's Head of Cooperation and Public Relations, Zulfikar Idris.

During the visit, Wali Nanggroe was accompanied by the Indonesian Honorary Consul in Vladivostok, Anton A. Zubko, and Special Staff Dr. Muhammad Raviq, Khatibul Wali Abdullah Hasbullah, and Khatibul Wali's structural official, Ema Yanti.

"The location of our region and Vladivostok provides many opportunities for the development of our respective countries," emphasized Wali Nanggroe.

Meanwhile, Anton A. Zubko emphasized his role in strengthening trade, economic, and cultural cooperation between Indonesia and the Russian Far East. He also appreciated the presence of the Aceh delegation at this prestigious forum.

"Thank you to Aceh and Mr. Teungku Malik Mahmud Al Haythar, who led this year's delegation. We strive to make this visit both productive and comfortable," said Zubko.[]
