On Thursday night, June 26, 2025, my family and I had the opportunity to have dinner at a popular street food stall in Medan called Seafood 2000. This visit also served as a relaxing moment after spending the day accompanying a relative at the hospital. The stall is known for its signature fried catfish and grilled chicken dishes, served at very affordable prices.
Seafood 2000 has been operating for quite some time in the Medan Petisah area. It is located on the side of Jalan Murni, No. 29–31. Although it's just a simple roadside tent, this place is rarely empty. Plastic tables are arranged under a large canopy, and from a distance, the aroma of grilling already tempts the appetite.
One interesting thing is the open kitchen, where you can see the frying and grilling process directly. The smoke occasionally drifts into the dining area, but the atmosphere remains lively and warm. We were fortunate to arrive during a less busy hour, so service was fairly quick.

We were still waiting for the rice to be served – the place was already lively with diners.
Once seated, we were promptly served and ordered several items:
- 2 servings of fried catfish – Rp17,000 / 8.4 Steem
- 2 servings of grilled chicken – Rp23,000 / 11.4 Steem
- 2 glasses of mineral water – Rp3,000 / 1.5 Steem
- 1 iced sweet tea – Rp5,000 / 2.5 Steem
- 1 hot water – Rp2,000 / 1 Steem
Total bill: Rp93,000 or ±46.1 Steem

All our dishes were finally complete – a satisfying sight before the first bite.
The fried catfish was served hot with a perfectly spicy red sambal. The catfish was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Meanwhile, the grilled chicken was soft and flavorful. Each plate came with fresh vegetables like cabbage, cucumber, and basil leaves.
The iced sweet tea added a refreshing touch, while the hot water was a comforting choice for my mother who prefers warm drinks at night. Even though it's a roadside eatery, our dining experience was quite pleasant.

The grilled chicken looked delicious – smoky, tender, and ready to eat. The fried catfish was super tasty – crispy outside and flavorful inside.
Suggestions for Improvement
Seafood 2000 has done well in terms of service and taste. However, lighting in some corners of the dining area could be improved for better comfort. Smoke management from the grill also needs attention to ensure it doesn't drift too much into the dining space.
