I have been looking into buying a proper A/C lately myself. I do have a old portable one, but they are not very good and consume a lot of electricity.
But a window A/C is no option here either, because the windows are much too big. And since this is a rented appartment I cannot make big modifications to the windows.
The only option would be a 2 part A/C, with the cold part indoors and the hot part outdoor, connected with pipes through the wall. But those are really expensive - around $2,000 at least.
And then there is another catch: as soon as I would buy one of those, there would be no hot summers anymore. Its always been like that in my life. So for the time being I just wait and see, as usual.
