What do you understand by basic education?
Basic Education is viewed as the elementary level of learning which forms the foundation of education. It can also be seen as the various educational activities targeted at meeting basic learning needs and skills. In Nigeria, for example, the basic education comprises the early childhood care, primary and lower secondary school. It is a 9-year educational pursuit called Universal Basic Education (UBE) and is expected to be free. At this level of education, a child is expected to know how to read and write, communicate in the English language and be able to perform simple arithmetic for day-to-day transactions.

According to you, what things should have been included in the basic education? Explain!
There are quite many things I feel should have been included in the basic education curriculum some of which are:
- Vocational skill: Vocational skills are the practical ability to carry out tasks in a specific trade. Aside from having skills in verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and problem solving, vocational skills like carpentry, tailoring, etc, can be introduced in the basic education to equip pupils and give them a vocational guide, especially for those who may not further their education.
- Entrepreneurship: This has to do with skills like backing, irrigation farming, etc, that require little capital, which will teach and help the pupils to be self-reliant.
- Sex Education: This is an aspect of education I feel we should include in basic education not as a topic but as a subject to be treated. We have neglected some of these areas and our children become victims of ignorance.
- Self-esteem: Self-esteem, I feel, should be a subject in basic education as it will help give confidence and self-worth among children, build a positive attitude and above all, improve learning.

Do you believe basic education plays a vital role in our growth? Explain how?
Yes, I strongly believe that basic education plays a vital role in our growth some of which are:
- Foundation of learning: It has given us foundational skills and room for personal growth in terms of effective communication, cognitive development, and social and emotional growth.
- It has helped reduce or control waywardness and reduce crime as it gathers children and gives them a sense of direction.
- Basic education has laid the foundation for good leaders, lawyers, doctors, etc that we have today and it is still laying the foundation. For the younger generation.
Conclusion
Basic education is the foundation of learning and building morals which should not be taken for granted. I invite @ninapenda, @ngozi996, @zulbahri and @ruthjoe to join the contest.
