Hello amigos, it is my pleasure to share my point of view on the topic of Ego/Self-confidence. For me, self-confidence is what we need for daily survival. Ego is the opposite of self-confidence, or perhaps an excess of self-confidence.

How DO YOU GLANCE TOWARDS THESE TWO WORDS FROM YOUR PERSPECTIVE? EXPLAIN!

First of all, I would like to begin by discussing the concept of ego before moving on to self-confidence. Ego is a word that vividly showcases a person's sense of self-importance, identity, and self-worth. It all goes with their feelings, perceptions, and thoughts about themselves. Ego can be good and bad it depends on how you value yourself, not valuing your opinions and behavior better than others but at the same time knowing who you really are is practicing healthy ego.

Ego also encompasses identity i.e a person's sense of who they are, ego also includes self-perception and confidence, it all talks about how we view and regard ourselves and the kind of self-assurance we possess.

Types Of Ego

  • Egotistical Ego: This is the type of ego where an individual tends to have an inflated sense of self-importance. This is the kind of ego we are not expecting to have because it causes us to be less social and makes us think we are the most important anywhere we find ourselves.

  • Healthy Ego: This is the type of ego that enforces a balanced sense of self-worth. This is not just ego but called self-confidence and reasoning.

  • Fragile Ego: This is the kind of ego that doesn't make sense at all because you are not in a healthy state, nor are you ill. This is the ego where we become vulnerable to emotional damage, physical harm because we are being too sensitive.

  1. Decision making: Ego is capable of causing us to make good or bad choices in solving a particular situation, but while possessing a healthy ego we can easily make good decisions that can better not just the present but the future.

  2. Relationship: Ego is a strong feeling that is also worthy of causing healthy relationships with loved ones, but not having the right kind of ego or self-worth can lead to relationship breakdown.

  3. Personal Growth: Ego The ego is so strong that it can definitely make a person's lifestyle change for the better, notwithstanding that it can also hinder personal growth when we think too highly of ourselves.

Ways Through Ego Can Be Managed

  • Humility: This is the act of being able to accept others' decisions and also do what is necessary irrelevant of who or where you find yourself in essence it means recognizing our strengths and weaknesses.

  • Self Awareness: This is all about knowing how we think and view things, also knowing how we will feel towards certain actions, so that we can manage our Ego and turn it into something healthy and meaningful.

  • Empathy: This is the aspect where we learn to let others help us, i.e condescending others' perspectives towards some pressing issues.

Self-confidence is defined as the belief an individual has in his/her abilities, capabilities, and likewise judgments. It's the self-belief that some have between what is right and wrong, the ability to handle challenges, achieve goals, and also make decisions.

Benefits Of Self-confidence

  1. Quality Decision Making: With self-confidence, there is a high chance of making great choices in life that help make life easier for us.

  2. Improved Performance: When we are confident in ourselves we can easily progress, and make the best out of whatever situation we find ourselves.

  3. Improved Resilience: Self-confidence can enable individuals to easily cope with setbacks and the challenges they may face.

We can build self-confidence by setting goals that we wish to achieve, because once we have what we are working our mind to we have unlimited confidence to keep on moving forward. It is said that knowledge is power, and it is advised that we acquire certain skills to improve our self-confidence, this is because once we are empowered with knowledge we become confident in what we possess.

HOW CAN WE DIFFERENTIATE WHETHER IT'S EGO OR SELF-CONFIDENCE?

Ego and self-confidence are two different words with each with its own separate perspectives. But these words are often similar while there are not, still there are differences;

Ego

  1. Comparison to others: This is often what make Ego to be called Ego because it's one of the major characteristics, it is usually has to do with individuals making comparison (better behavior/asset's) of oneself to other's, it is also when we feel that we are more superior that those we know, sometimes often tend to control activities beyond us.

  2. Inflated importance: This is when we feel so comfortable with our abilities or accomplishments that we disregard others.

  3. Focused on external validation: This is when one often relies on praise and recognition.

Self-Confidence

  • Focus on personal growth: This all talks about empowering ourselves with, improvement, learning, and getting better every day.

  • Realistic self-assessment: This is when individuals have a balanced and critical observation of their accomplishments and abilities.

  • Internal Validation: This is a point where one doesn't solely rely on validation from others, rather it is internal, that is trusting your inner self.

Key Differences

  1. Reaction to criticism: Ego is capable of causing defensiveness, while self-confidence promotes and enforces growth and feedback.

  2. Motivation: Ego is a kind where you require external validation, while self-confidence is all about working towards or personal goals and achievement.

DO YOU BELIEVE ONE WE MUST REJECT AND THE OTHER MUST ENFORCE IN OUR SELF-IMPROVEMENT? WHICH ONE AND WHY?

I think that the best we can do for ourselves is to look for the means possible in improving ourselves. This is because we need to stay focused to achieve our desired goals and it is only through that way that we can live a life worth remembering. The same way learning is a continuous process is also the same way that self-improvement is continuous.

Why should we work on ourselves? We should do this so that we can excel in our various careers, or wherever we find ourselves, it is also good to work on self-improvement because it is through that way we can manage emotions in relationships with others and avoid trauma and anxiety. With self-improvement, we can easily develop strategies for tackling any obstacles before us.
