Incredible India monthly contest of October #1| Ego vs Self-confidence.
How do you glance towards these two words from your perspective? Explain.
Taking a second thought, the two terms, confidence and ego are mighty tools of human behaviour and relationships. In my own opinion, confidence is a silent power that helps one to grow, be humble and have confidence in oneself. It enables one to take action without having to assert anything to other people. Conversely, ego usually covers insecurity under pride and comparison. It constructs fences rather than establish relationships and education. The distinction is in intent: confidence builds up oneself and others, whereas ego is interested in proving something and being superior.
Everyday life permits us to notice the boundary between the two, which will make us live a more meaningful life, respect the others, and appreciate ourselves. Confidence to me releases the spirit whilst the ego keeps the spirit in chains.
How can we differentiate whether it's ego or self-confidence?
The distinction between ego and self-confidence is that we are motivated to think and act in a certain way. Self-confidence is based on self-awareness and calm confidence; it enables us to recognize our good aspects and at the same time be ready to learn and be corrected. An assertive individual rejoices when other people achieve success without feeling threatened. Insecurity and comparison are, however, the causes of ego.
It wants to be constantly validated and dominate and usually does not want to be advised or criticized. Confidence produces harmony and respect whereas ego produces conflict and distance. Humility is the most important difference, which confidence accompanies but ego denies. When our behaviors are motivating and inspirational, not humiliating or domineering, we are functioning out of a feeling of confidence, not egotism. Real power is modest and not proud.
Do you believe one we must reject and the other must enforce in our self-improvement? Which one and why?
Yes, ego has to be discarded and self confidence should be cultivated and imposed in the self-improvement journey. Ego makes us blind with pride and illusion of the superiority that does not allow us to admit our errors and learn about them. It lives off external approval and generates unneeded rivalry. Self-confidence, on the contrary, enables development - it enables us to confront the challenges, to take feedback, and continue to improve without fear of failure.
Confidence builds up our purpose and gives hope to others. In denying ourselves the ego, we give room to humility, empathy, and open mindedness. We build up confidence, self-belief and strength and thereby we build courage. Ultimately, confidence leaves one healthy psychologically and stronger relationships as opposed to ego which limited the growth and divided us with actual success.
