Incredible India monthly contest of September #1| Basic Education!
What do you understand by basic education?
Basic education is the initial level of education through which people are provided with necessary skills, knowledge, and values to develop themselves and to contribute to the society. It typically entails primary, lower secondary and early childhood education. The objective is to equip learners with literacy, numeracy, communication, problem-solving, and moral values to put them at the level of higher learning, employment, and professional citizenship.
Education, particularly at a basic level, also enhances creativity, socialization and awareness of culture whereby people learn to know themselves and their surrounding environment. It is an element of a lifetime learning and human capital development. It is the right of every child and a very important instrument to alleviate poverty and national development in most societies.
According to you, what things should have been included in the basic education? Explain!
I feel that basic education must not just be learning how to read, write, and arithmetic, but also to include life skills that empower people to cope in the real world. It must include digital literacy as the world is now globalized by technology. Health and hygiene education should also be a part and training of children on nutrition, first aid and personal well being. Environmental researches are necessary to inculcate climate change and sustainable living.
Moral and civic education should help develop values like honesty, respect, empathy and responsibility towards the community and the nation. Practical skills such as team work, problem solving and critical thinking should be promoted as a system of promoting innovation. This stage could also be used to include vocational awareness so that the learners are able to discover their talent and be prepared to work in the future.
Do you believe basic education plays a vital role in our growth? Explain how?
Yes, I am very much convinced that basic education is an important aspect in our development since it prepares us with the essentials of personal and social development. It empowers individuals with literacy and numeracy competencies which are fundamental in communication, learning and day-to-day problem solving. With elementary education children are able to acquire discipline, confidence and curiosity which nourishes life long learning. It also instils value, morals, and social relationships, which make people relate well with others and cooperate with them in a peaceful manner.
On a larger scale, elementary education lessens poverty, enhances health awareness and also gives individuals the power to make wise choices. It opens up a path to superior jobs, creativity and leadership, hence propelling the country forward. It is almost impossible to have any sustainable growth and a better future without basic education.
