Leaving my comfort zone
almost 4 years ago, this winter marks me my four year Germaniversary. I decided to leave my beloved country, city, namely Jakarta, Indonesia where I was born, where I grew up there, for me it was not an easy decision. how hard it was to leave my Family, my home, friends and a life i knew.
moved to a country which is very famous with all the technology and medicine. Germany, it takes vulnerability and courage to move aboard, to a totally new country. It didn't take me long to realise that i wouldn't get opportunity like this again, to studying at the oldest University in Berlin. Without question, it is been a learning experience and i have come away with a lot of great stories. Everything from the process of moving to a new country, embracing a new culture, learning a new language and a million other things. i never expected to live in Germany, but four years on, yeah here i am, i started studying Asian and Afrika Studies. I was completely by myself, there were times when being alone led to a sense of loneliness that became overwhelming to handle and now, I have a Boyfriends, Friends, a home, my life in Berlin is good.
And Remember:
Whenever somebody decides to dare greatly and be vulnerable, there will be comments. This is shame at its best- or at its worst. Unfortunately, regardless of the decision whether to stay or to go, there will be shaming voices, telling us that we are never enough. But I believe that expats are great, and so do the people who stay.
i will share my other experiences in the next post. :)
the Brandenburg Gate
Berlin made it easier for me to move because the city is truly international. There are always lots of different people around.
