"Buonasera, mi hanno assaltato, alle spalle, di giorno, sotto casa, zona centro habana, per strapparmi la catenina...non voglio commentare e mi piacerebbe per un po non leggere cronache esaltative di usi, costumi, bellezze locali, ormai definitivamente PURTROPPO fuori luogo! può succedere ovunque ma a me e successo qui. Cuba io la amo e la conosco discretamente. ma adesso ho deciso di tornare a casa, in Italia!"

Le righe che ho pubblicato fanno parte di un post di un italiano che si trova a Cuba anche per lavoro e che, dopo aver subito una aggressione, ha deciso di tornare a casa.
Credo che anche una situazione non piacevole come la seguente vada riportata nel suo giusto contesto.

Stranieri nei paesi dell'America latina vengono assaltati ogni giorno, non e' piu' una notizia.
Conosco personalmente italiani che, dopo aver abbandonato Cuba per loro ragioni non sindacabili, sono stati assaltati in Colombia, Repubblica Dominicana e Isla Margherita.
Da quelle parti del mondo funziona cosi', sei pallido di carnagione quindi straniero, allora vuol dir che hai soldi quindi sei assaltabile.
Senza generalizzare ma la realta' dei fatti e' questa.

Cuba, fino a qualche anno fa era una sorta di piccolo paradiso, o almeno noi l'abbiamo sempre creduta tale perche' senza i social ad amplificare gli eventi non sapevamo se fulano era stato assaltato da megano.
Ora non scappa piu' nulla.
Saremo liberi di andare in giro per l'Avana, Santiago, Las Tunas con una bella catena d'oro al collo?
Sicuramente.
Pero' e' bene sapere che quella catena attirera' l'occhio, esattamente come accade a Caracas, La Romana e Bogota'.
Quindi e' una scelta nostra andare in giro in un certo modo, che poi dia enormemente fastidio il fatto che oggi certe cose capitino (o noi ne veniamo a conoscenza) a Cuba e' palese, ma non ci possiamo fare nulla.

La policia non ci protegge piu' come un tempo?
Prendiamone atto.
Cosi' come non sappiamo o non facciamo attenzione agli assalti a Medellin a breve daremo per scontato che certe cose possono accade anche nella maggiore delle Antille.
Possiamo e dobbiamo essere piu' prudenti, girare a piedi di notte per una citta' cubana non e' come farlo in una colombiana ma sta' iniziando ad assomigliarci.
Quindi di sera si gira con un mezzo o in taxi, poi puo' capitare anche in pieno giorno e capisco che la cosa dia fastidio ma la Cuba di oggi e' anche questa.
Siamo noi che dobbiamo decidere se accettarla o meno.

ASSAULT

"Good evening, I was attacked, from behind, during the day, under my house, in the center of Havana, to tear off my necklace... I don't want to comment and I would like for a while not to read extolling reports of local customs, habits, beauties, now definitively UNFORTUNATELY out of place! It can happen anywhere but it happened to me here. I love Cuba and know it fairly well. But now I've decided to return home, to Italy!"

The lines I published are part of a post by an Italian who is in Cuba also for work and who, after being attacked, decided to return home.
I believe that even an unpleasant situation like the following should be put into its proper context.

Foreigners in Latin American countries are attacked every day, it's no longer news.
I personally know Italians who, after having left Cuba for their own unquestionable reasons, have been attacked in Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Isla Margarita.
In those parts of the world it works like this, if you are pale skinned therefore a foreigner, then it means you have money therefore you are attackable.
Without generalizing but the reality of the facts is this.

Cuba, until a few years ago was a sort of small paradise, or at least we always believed it to be so because without social media to amplify events we did not know if Fulano had been attacked by Megano.
Now nothing escapes anymore.
Will we be free to walk around Havana, Santiago, Las Tunas with a nice gold chain around our neck?
Definitely.
But it is good to know that that chain will attract attention, exactly as it happens in Caracas, La Romana and Bogota.
So it is our choice to walk around in a certain way, that it is then enormously annoying that today certain things happen (or we find out about them) in Cuba is obvious, but we can't do anything about it.

The police no longer protect us like they used to?
Let's face it.
Just as we don't know or pay attention to the attacks in Medellin, we will soon take for granted that certain things can also happen in the largest of the Antilles.
We can and must be more cautious, walking around a Cuban city at night is not like doing it in a Colombian one but it is starting to resemble it.
So in the evening we go around by car or taxi, then it can also happen in broad daylight and I understand that it is annoying but today's Cuba is also this.
We are the ones who must decide whether to accept it or not.
