A volte mi capita di leggere report di ritorno da parte di viaggiatori che frequentano Cuba per la prima volta oppure che c'erano gia' stati anni fa.
Mi pare di cogliere un po' di delusione in quegli scritti, ovviamente legittima, ma alcune considerazioni mi sento di farle, un blog serve, se serve, proprio a questo.

Se si tratta di un primo viaggio il fatto di essere contenti della scelta o meno e' una cosa che investe qualunque destinazione uno scelga per la propria vacanza.
Anche qua' a Comacchio, dove alla fine non vai a spendere di meno, anzi.
Io credo che un turista tradizionale possa godersi al meglio la vacanza, Cuba e' piena di bei posti, negli hotel non ci sono problemi di apagones, al limite il buffet non e' cosi' ricco come in altre location ma e' una cosa che non dovrebbe influenzare negativamente una vacanza.

Diverso e' il discorso per chi a Cuba c'era gia' stato o ci va' con una certa frequenza.
Occorre capire bene dove posizionare l'asticella.
Se uno c'era stato 20/25 anni fa allora la trovera' differente ma l'Italia ed il mondo sono la stessa cosa dell'anno 2000?
Non credo.
Allora c'erano grandi speranze con l'Europa unita, l'euro (l'unico vantaggio vero per noi viaggiatori), erano caduti da 10 anni i muri che dividevano il nostro continente, forse eravamo felici e non lo sapevamo.
Guardate oggi come siamo messi...

Quindi che Cuba non sia la stessa di 25 anni fa mi sembra una cosa logica.
Migliore? Peggiore?
Tutte due le cose secondo me.
Migliore perche' la tecnologia, come scrivevo giorni fa, ci ha aiutato a semplificare le cose, perche' a Tunas ci sono 10 luoghi dove mangiare decentemente rispetto a quando nel 2000 ci misi piede e c'era solo la Bodeguida.
Migliore perche' le case de renta sono salite di livello e costano decisamente meno di allora, migliore perche' i social hanno rimpicciolito il mondo, migliore perche' anche i voli costano di meno, migliore perche' oggi nei negozi c'e' di tutto.

Ovviamente io parlo dal punto di vista del turista, non da quello del cubano che farebbe discorsi differenti.
Peggiore perche' si e' perso quel clima sociale che ci ha spinti a tornare ogni volta, peggiore perche' tanti amici e conoscenti se ne sono andati, peggiore perche' e' brutto vedere persone a cui siamo legati che faticano a campare, peggiore perche' oggi nessuno fa piu' nulla per nulla (esattamente come da noi).
La lista delle cose peggiori o migliori potrebbe continuare a lungo.

Occorre capire dove posizionare l'asticella, ognuno di noi sa dove ha bisogno di trovarla.
Mettiamoci pure, nella scelta di dove piazzarla, il fatto che noi siamo 25/30 anni piu' vecchi e che le cose che ci affascinavano lustri fa oggi le riteniamo superflue, cerchiamo situazioni che allora ci sembravano futili e inutili.
Ogni testa e' sempre un piccolo mondo.

Sometimes I read return reports from travelers visiting Cuba for the first time or who had already been there years ago.
I sense a bit of disappointment in those writings, which is obviously legitimate, but I feel like I should make a few observations; that's exactly what a blog is for, if it's for that purpose.

If it's a first trip, whether you're happy with your choice or not is a factor that affects any destination you choose for your vacation.
Even here in Comacchio, where you end up spending less, not less.
I believe a traditional tourist can enjoy their vacation to the fullest. Cuba is full of beautiful places, the hotels aren't particularly lacking in apagones, and the buffet isn't as lavish as elsewhere, but that shouldn't negatively impact a vacation.

It's a different story for those who have already been to Cuba or go there frequently.
You need to understand exactly where to set the bar.
If someone had been there 20/25 years ago, they'd find it different, but are Italy and the world the same as they were in 2000?
I don't think so.
Back then, there were great hopes with a united Europe and the euro (the only real advantage for us travelers). The walls dividing our continent had fallen 10 years earlier, perhaps we were happy and didn't know it.
Look at how things are today...

So it seems logical to me that Cuba isn't the same as it was 25 years ago.
Better? Worse?
Both, in my opinion.
Better because technology, as I wrote a few days ago, has helped us simplify things, because in Tunas there are 10 places where you can eat decently compared to when I first set foot there in 2000 and there was only La Bodeguida.
Better because rental properties have gone upscale and cost significantly less than they did back then, better because social media has made the world smaller, better because even flights are cheaper, better because today's shops have everything.

Obviously, I'm speaking from a tourist's perspective, not from a Cuban's, who would argue differently.
Worse because we've lost the social climate that kept us coming back time and time again, worse because so many friends and acquaintances have left, worse because it's awful to see people we love struggling to make ends meet, worse because today no one does anything for nothing (just like in our country).
The list of better and worse things could go on and on.

We need to understand where to set the bar; each of us knows where we need to find it.
When choosing where to place it, let's also take into account the fact that we are 25/30 years older and that the things that fascinated us years ago we now consider superfluous, we seek out situations that then seemed futile and pointless.
Every head is still a small world.
