Comanda davvero lui? 🇮🇹🇬🇧

Vedevo l'altro giorno un video di un cubano americano, che vive a Miami, dove si metteva in dubbio il fatto che sia realmente Diaz Canel a governare Cuba.
Ora, senza scendere nei dettagli (vorrei poter tornare a Cuba...) e' indubbio che ci siano diverse forze alla guida del paese.
Ad esempio i militari (Raul), ad esempio Gaesa.
Pero' in ogni nazione al mondo elementi ella societa' civile ma anche militare influenzano le decisioni di chi guida il paese, come ricordo spesso, Cuba non e' su Marte.

Diaz Canel e' il primo civile che guida il paese dopo il 1959, succedere a Fidel ne cuore e nella pancia dei cubani era impossibile, succedere a Raul complicato.
Si e' cosi' scelto di piazzare un civile, un funzionario abbastanza oscuro, che sia per governare sul serio o per fare da paravento...lascio ad ognuno di voi il giudizio.
Diaz Canel non piace molto ai cubani, almeno a quelli che conosco , non e' un militare, non ha una storia personale di rilievo, ha una voce roca che non emerge, non ha una parlantina che uno si ferma ad ascoltare, dice quasi sempre cose banali, cose che uno si aspetta da un funzionario politico di provincia, non da un leader.

Poi c'e' il discorso della moglie.
I cubani sono sempre stati abituati a vedere il loro leader andare in giro da solo, Fidel con le donne faceva altro, Raul....non so e non mi interessa.
Il fatto che questo si porti la moglie in giro per il mondo, a spese dell'erario cubano e' una cosa che pochi apprezzano, anche perche' si chiedono cosa serva portarsela dietro.
E' anche vero che e' una cosa comune a molti capi di stato ma Cuba e' particolare anche in questo.

Poi c'e' il discorso, decisamente piu' serio, sul quanto realmente conti il tipo nella politica del paese, quanto possa incidere, quanto sia in grado di gestire i militari, quanto realmente sia Presidente.
Quanto sia responsabile sulla situazione attuale, sugli apagones, sulla carenza di acqua, sulla basura che soffoca la capitale.
Quanto ci sia di suo sui cambi continui di dirigenti provinciali e di ministri, insomma quanto realmente governi lui il paese.

Gli restano meno di 4 anni per concludere il secondo mandato, poi vedremo a chi tocchera', vedremo se sara' un presidente vero o soltanto un prestanome dietro il quale si nascondono i veri poteri forti del paese.

IS HE REALLY IN CHARGE?

The other day I saw a video by a Cuban-American living in Miami, questioning whether Diaz-Canel is really governing Cuba.
Now, without going into details (I wish I could go back to Cuba...), there is no doubt that there are different forces governing the country.
For example, the military (Raul), for example, Gaesa.
However, in every nation in the world, elements of civil society, but also the military, influence the decisions of those who lead the country. As I often remind you, Cuba is not on Mars.

Díaz-Canel is the first civilian to lead the country since 1959. Succeeding Fidel in the hearts and minds of Cubans was impossible, succeeding Raul was complicated.
So they chose to place a civilian, a fairly obscure official, to truly govern or to act as a front... I'll leave it up to each of you to judge.
Cubans don't like Díaz-Canel much, at least not the ones I know. He's not a soldier, he doesn't have a significant personal history, he has a hoarse voice that doesn't stand out, he doesn't have a gift for the gab that one would stop to listen to, he almost always says banal things, things one would expect from a provincial political official, not a leader.

Then there's the matter of his wife.
Cubans have always been accustomed to seeing their leader travel alone. Fidel did other things with women, Raúl... I don't know and I don't care.
The fact that he takes his wife around the world, at the expense of the Cuban treasury, is something few appreciate, also because they wonder what the point of carrying her around is.
It's also true that this is common among many heads of state, but Cuba is unique even in this regard.

Then there's the decidedly more serious discussion of how much this guy really matters in the country's politics, how much influence he can have, how capable he is of managing the military, how much he really is President.
How responsible he is for the current situation, for the apagones, for the water shortage, for the basura suffocating the capital.
How much of his influence is behind the constant changes in provincial leaders and ministers—in short, how much he really governs the country.

He has less than four years left to complete his second term, then we'll see who will take over, whether he will be a real president or just a front man hiding the country's real powers.
