🇮🇹

REPUBLIC

In recent days, the anniversary of the Republic Day was celebrated.
On June 2nd of many years ago, the Italian people were called to decide whether our country should continue to be a monarchy or become a republic.
The second option won, fortunately.

At least we got rid of a series of parasites by hereditary right, replacing them, in the current exception, with others who became such by elective right.
The table you see indicates the progress of that referendum, net of real or false fraud that has been talked about for decades.
The table gives the image of a country split in two with Lazio acting as a balance.

Curious how even Piedmont, land of the Savoy, opted for the Republic, probably the memory of the Partisans who liberated the region practically by themselves was still alive, while the King and his acolytes had fled to Salerno to take refuge under the skirts of the allies.

The North voted unanimously for the Republic, the South, perhaps out of Bourbon nostalgia, unanimously for the monarchy.
Totò, a convinced monarchist, did not speak to his friend Peppino de Filippo, a Communist, for 6 months because he voted Republican.
That this Republic came about in a very crooked way is another matter, but let's say that things in that referendum went as they were supposed to go.

Congratulations!
