Recentemente c'e' stata una situazione in Messico che ha coinvolto Cuba, indirettamente.
La sindaca di Citta' del Messico Alejandra Rojo de la Vega ha fatto rimuovere due statue, una di Fidel e l'altra del Che da un parco pubblico, le due statue erano sedute su una panchina che troneggiava sullo spazio circostante.

La sindaca, non so di che idee politiche ma che comunque ha fatto vacanze a Cuba, ha asserito che le statue installate anni fa nel parque Tabacalera non avevano i permessi necessari, affermazioni subito smentite dalle autorita' cittadine.
La sindaca, sempre secondo fonti messicane, non aveva l'autorita' per rimuovere le statue, doveva chiedere il permesso al Comitato dei Monumenti e delle Opere Artistiche negli spazi pubblici.

Fra l'altro pare che le sculture fossero state omaggiate da uno scultore famoso.
La presidentessa messicana Claudia Sheinbaum l'ha presa malissimo inviando subito una lettera.
"Cio' che e' stato richiesto e' che il monumento venga consegnato e trasferito in un'altra sede, in modo che la questione possa essere risolta. La verita' e' che e' stato rimosso illegalmente."

La sindaca ha pure affermato di voler mettere all'asta le statue, la presidentessa ha annunciato che la cosa avrebbe causato danni patrimoniali allo stato, danni di cui la sindaca avrebbe risposto personalmente in solido.
Nei giorni scorsi al parque Tabacalera ci sono state proteste da parte di gruppi sociali, sindacali e politici organizzate dal Movimento messicano di Solidarieta' con Cuba, che chiedevano alle autorita' di restituire le due statue alla loro collocazione originale.

Il Messico, non molto tempo fa, si era reso protagonista anche della rimozione della statua di Cristoforo Colombo, dietro richiesta dei gruppi di base indigeni che accusavano, a ragione, il genovese di avere aperto le porte a tutti gli orrori e i furti che la corona spagnola avrebbe poi perpetrato nei confronti del popolo messicano e latino americano in genere.

Recently, there was a situation in Mexico that indirectly involved our beloved island.
Mexico City Mayor Alejandra Rojo de la Vega had two statues removed, one of Fidel and the other of Che, from a public park. The two statues were sitting on a bench overlooking the surrounding area.

The mayor, whose political views I don't know, but who has vacationed in Cuba, asserted that the statues installed years ago in Tabacalera Park lacked the necessary permits, claims quickly denied by city authorities.
The mayor, again according to Mexican sources, did not have the authority to remove the statues; she should have requested permission from the Committee for Monuments and Works of Art in Public Spaces.

Among other things, it seems the sculptures had been honored by a famous sculptor.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum took this very badly and immediately sent a letter.
"What has been requested is that the monument be handed over and moved to another location so that the matter can be resolved. The truth is that it was removed illegally."

The mayor also stated that she intended to auction the statues, announcing that this would cause financial damage to the state, damages for which the mayor would be jointly and severally liable.

In recent days, protests have taken place at Tabacalera Park by social, union, and political groups, organized by the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, calling on the authorities to return the two statues to their original location.

Not long ago, Mexico also took the lead in removing the statue of Christopher Columbus, at the request of indigenous grassroots groups who rightly accused the Genoese of having opened the door to all the horrors and thefts that the Spanish crown would later perpetrate against the Mexican and Latin American people in general.
