"Cio' che e' fuori e' anche dentro; e cio' che non e' dentro non e' da nessuna parte. Per questo viaggiare non serve. Se uno non ha niente dentro,non trovera' mai niente fuori. E' inutile andare a cercare nel mondo quel che non si riesce a trovare dentro di se."

Parto da questo pensiero di Terzani inserito nell'ultimo libro che scrisse, Un'altro giro di giostra, per fare alcune considerazioni sul viaggio ed il viaggiare.
Ovviamente riferito soprattutto a Cuba, anche se il mio lavoro mi ha portato spesso nei posti piu' sperduti ma meravigliosi del pianeta.
Parto sempre da un presupposto; dentro di noi 9000 km non cambiano nulla.

Se sei uno stronzo, un pezzo di merda non e' che il fatto di cambiare continente sorvolando gli oceani ti faccia diventare una persona migliore.
Se parti con molti problemi irrisolti, complessita' esistenziali, forse Cuba puo' aiutarti favorendo il fatto di mettere tutte queste cose sotto il tappeto, ma non le fara' scomparire.
Maradona passo' del tempo a Cuba, Pantani ci passo' delle settimane, nessuno dei due risolse in modo definitivo il suo problema.

Questo per dire che non si trova fuori quello che dentro non c'e', il sole, il mare, il sesso a buon mercato, la facilita' nei rapporti sociali possono farti credere che tutti i problemi siano risolti ma non e' cosi'.
Quando torni a casa tutto e' li' ad aspettarti e anche quando sei a Cuba (o altrove) il retro pensiero dei tuoi problemi e' sempre li' presente.
Altrimenti non si spiegherebbe perche' in giro per l'isola, a Tunas come nella capitale, si trovano cosi' tanti vecchi italiani incazzati col mondo, eppure sei in una sorta di paradiso terrestre ma se l'inferno ce l'hai dentro non te ne accorgi neppure.

Fatevi un giro per i social, i gruppi che parlano di Cuba poi mi raccontate cio' che avete letto...
Cuba e' uno specchio, se sei uno stronzo ti trattera' da stronzo, se sei una persona per bene (cosa diversa dall'essere un bobo) verrai trattato come tale.
Quindi e' inutile partire, lasciare l'Italia, cercare nuovi luoghi dove vivere se lo zaino e' pieno di cose che andrebbero buttate via, lo so che non e' facile ma non ci sono altre soluzioni.

Soprattutto da una certa eta' in poi occorre togliere dallo zaino, non aggiungere.
Lasciare solo le cose che ci fanno stare bene, provare ad essere felici, regolare le cose in Italia al meglio per tentare di essere migliori ovunque andremo.
Non e' sempre facile, ma non provarci sarebbe davvero un delitto.

TRAVEL LIGHT

"What's outside is also inside; and what's not inside is nowhere. This is why traveling is pointless. If you have nothing inside, you'll never find anything outside. It's useless to search the world for what you can't find inside yourself."

I'll start with this thought from Terzani's last book, "Another Ride on the Carousel," to offer some thoughts on travel and traveling.
Obviously, this refers primarily to Cuba, although my work has often taken me to the most remote yet wonderful places on the planet.
I always start from one premise: 9,000 kilometers inside us change nothing.

If you're an asshole, a piece of shit, it's not like changing continents by flying across oceans will make you a better person.
If you leave with many unresolved problems, existential complexities, perhaps Cuba can help you by helping you sweep all these things under the rug, but it won't make them disappear.
Maradona spent time in Cuba, Pantani spent weeks there, neither of them definitively solved their problem.

This is to say that you don't find outside what isn't inside. The sun, the sea, the cheap sex, the ease of social relationships can make you believe that all your problems are solved, but that's not the case.
When you return home, everything is there waiting for you, and even when you're in Cuba (or elsewhere), the afterthought of your problems is always there.
Otherwise, it wouldn't be possible to explain why around the island, in Tunas as well as in the capital, there are so many old Italians pissed off at the world, yet you're in a sort of earthly paradise, but if you have hell inside you, you don't even notice.

Browse social media, groups about Cuba, and then tell me what you've read...
Cuba is a mirror. If you're an asshole, you'll be treated like one. If you're a decent person (which is different from being a jerk), you'll be treated as such.
So there's no point in leaving, leaving Italy, looking for new places to live if your backpack is full of things that should be thrown away. I know it's not easy, but there are no other solutions.

Especially after a certain age, you need to take things out of your backpack, not add them.
Leave only the things that make you feel good, try to be happy, and arrange things in Italy as best as possible to try to be better wherever you go.
It's not always easy, but not trying would be a real crime.
