Khadichaur Bazar

Khadichaur Bazar is a small yet busy marketplace located in Sindhupalchok District, Bagmati Province of Nepal. It lies along the Arniko Highway, the major road that connects Kathmandu with Kodari, the Nepal–China border point. Because of its strategic roadside location, Khadichaur has grown into a vibrant stopover town for travelers, traders, and transporters.

The bazar is surrounded by hilly terrain, with the Bhotekoshi River flowing nearby, which adds natural beauty as well as challenges during monsoon season. Khadichaur serves as a gateway to several places in Sindhupalchok, including Bahrabise, Dolalghat, and further north toward Tatopani and Kodari. It is also a common rest point for vehicles traveling to the border or to remote mountain settlements.

Economically, Khadichaur thrives on small shops, restaurants, tea houses, and local businesses that serve both local residents and passersby. It is especially known for being a transport and trading hub where agricultural goods from nearby villages are brought to market.

In recent years, Khadichaur has faced difficulties due to landslides, roadblocks, and natural disasters like the 2015 earthquake, which affected the entire Sindhupalchok region. Despite challenges, the bazar continues to rebuild and remains a vital lifeline for the surrounding communities.

Culturally, Khadichaur reflects the traditions of Sindhupalchok, with diverse groups such as Tamang, Newar, and other ethnic communities contributing to the bazar’s social life. Local fairs, roadside eateries, and everyday market activities give Khadichaur its lively character.
