Yarn from Home Bargains - Knit Now - 31 July 2025

Sage colour yarn from Home Bargains
I also bought some yarn from Home Bargains. The yarn cost only £1.59 per 100g ball so that’s around 20 Steem per ball. I purchased six balls so I didn't have the worry of starting something and then running out (or worrying about running out) half way through the project.

As you can see the label above says that the yarn was made in Turkiye; it’s Double Knitting and I can use my 4mm knitting needles. I was interested to read this label because it says that you can (even) dry clean it - I would not try that but it was interesting because it indicated this option.

Another view of the yarn in all its glory.
Some time ago I also purchased a knitting magazine called Knit Now, issue 182. I’d seen an advert of this magazine and its contents on a website called Craftworld. On the website you can buy the digital issue, but I actually wanted to have the 'real' magazine.

Knit Now, Issue 182 and two inserts : lace patterns and assorted 'summer patterns'.
My initial interest was also to make this pair of socks :

A closer look at the socks after reading the pattern made me realise that all the white bits are actually embroidered not part of a knitted stitch; I felt quite disappointed about that. I feel it’s too much work to embroider each individual bit. I’m still therefore looking for the perfect pattern for a pair of socks with an unusual or interesting stitch that will 'elevate' my knitting from ordinary to special.
The magazine included two inserts. One was a booklet with lace patterns and the other was a booklet with 15 more patterns :

Sweaters, scarves, and an incredibly colourful blanket with squares that uses some intarsia and various textured stitches.

I'm hoping to make a sample 'butterfly' square just to try the intarsia technique.
I’ve enjoyed reading and learning about it and how it got made but I doubt I’ll ever make such a huge project - or perhaps I might use some squares for a cushion in more muted colours - lots of options.
The sweater below was also included. I’m sure I’ve seen this pattern online before.

This is not a magazine I buy every month. Indeed at £10.99 or over 100 Steem, the price is quite prohibitive. I only bought it because of the advert I saw online and thought it was worth the price for three items. It's a big treat similar to buying a special book.
I’ll keep reading the magazine and will pick one of the patterns to have a go.
Thanks for reading !
You made a good purchase, cautious girl, very good. I'm sure I'll see your finished projects. You're infecting me with your enthusiasm. My projects are at a standstill, but my daughter has knitted a skirt. She keeps herself entertained with her yarn and needles while on vacation. See you soon, take care.
That's good to read @marito74 ! I look forward to seeing @sammy1109 skirt too.
