Tell your story#53 – My Cousin’s Journey: A Sudden Turn
This week, I am participating in the “Tell Your Story” contest organized by @ruthjoe , and I want to share something real and very emotional that recently happened in my family.
The story is about my cousin, who is the son of my mamu (my mother’s brother). My mamu is the only earning person in his family. His health is not so good either, but he still works hard every day to support his wife and three young children.
My cousin had just finished his 10th class exams (matric) and was waiting for his results. Since he had almost two free months, someone advised my mamu to send him to Islamabad (about two hours from our city) to learn a useful skill an Amazon course that could help him earn online in the future.
My cousin is only 16 years old, but he wanted to help his father. So, after thinking a lot and arranging everything, my mamu decided to send him. Thankfully, some of our relatives live in Islamabad, and they happily agreed to keep my cousin with them.
My mamu personally visited the training academy, liked the place, and completed the admission process. The very next day, he dropped his son there, arranged all his belongings, and returned home with hope in his heart.
My cousin was very happy and excited to learn. We used to talk to him daily via video call or Snapchat. He would proudly share what he had learned and how he was spending his day.
But unfortunately, just two weeks after joining, something terrible happened.
One day, he was going somewhere on his bike, when a rickshaw suddenly made a wrong U-turn in front of him. My cousin was riding a little fast. To avoid hitting the rickshaw, he turned the bike quickly. But just then, a dog came in front of him. He tried to brake and save the dog, but he lost control. He fell off the bike, and the bike fell on him.
He got badly injured there were wounds on his hands, legs, and especially his knee was hurting badly. Some people nearby called an ambulance and rushed him to a government hospital. Sadly, the doctors were careless and said he was fine without doing proper checkups. They let him go.
He was in so much pain, alone, and helpless. He called the relatives he was living with, and they brought him back home. But his pain was increasing, and it was hard for him to even stand or walk.
So finally, he returned to his home in Chakwal, where my mamu lives. He came back on his own, even though he was in terrible pain. My mamu got him checked again in a proper hospital, and the doctors confirmed that he had a fracture near his knee joint. They immediately applied a plaster, which he now has to keep for at least one month.
Now, my cousin is on complete bed rest. He can’t walk properly and uses a walking stick for support. One of our elder cousins (my khala’s son) is now staying with him to take care of him, because my mamu is busy with work and my mami (aunt) is also not well.
My cousin was such a joyful, active boy. He had gone to another city with dreams of learning and doing something useful for his family. But now, he is lying in bed, unable to move much. It’s painful for all of us to see him like this.
What I Learned
From this experience, I learned that life can change in just a moment. We make plans, but Allah has His oun. My cousin is very young and was only trying to help his father by learning a skill. But now, he is injured and has to wait for recovery.
We all believe that evil eye (nazar) is real. Many people were surprised to see such a young boy going alone to another city to study. In our family, children are usualy protected and pampered. So when people saw his courage and maturity, maybe some eyes affected him.
Please pray for my cousin’s fast recovery. I hope he soon gets back on his feet, continues his learning journey,z and becomes a support for his parents especially my mamu, who is already struggling with health and finances.
This was something very emotional that happened to us this week. I hope my story touched your heart. Don’t forget to keep my cousin in your duas.
That's it from today’s blog. I hope you liked it. With best wishes. Now I would like to invite:
