A warning for wearers of contact lenses
I have just been told the shocking news that a good stalking pal of mine has lost his sight in both eyes and has been in hospital for 5 weeks with no improvement in that period. Initially he was told that his sight would improve within 2 weeks but he is still bed-ridden in hospital and on a drip.
The cause of this utterly dreadful condition is contamination from his hands whilst removing/inserting his contact lenses - which even to me as a non-wearer is frightening. I had never even heard of such a thing!
Lady FB has had lenses for many years and tells me that you shouldn’t even shower or go swimming with lenses in because of the risk of water-borne infection and poor hygiene which can indeed be catastrophic - as of yesterday my pal has been told that he will be offered corneal transplants but no-one ever wants to be in that awful position!
Do take care chaps!

I see it's been a while since you've posted, but I just wanted to ask if anyone here has started using daily disposables after reading this. I switched a few months ago after a scare with irritation, and they’ve made a big difference, especially when out stalking all day. Anyone else find their eyes feel better with dailies, or have other little habits to keep lenses clean in the field?
That’s horrifying to hear. My cousin once got a bad eye infection from just swimming with his lenses for a few minutes, and it freaked me out. I’ve since switched to using those safe halloween zombie lenses from cosplay sites for fun, just for a few hours, so at least I can wear contacts without risking serious damage.
