Answer: What are your thoughts on Attorney General Pam Bondi's comments about going after people for "hate speech"?
For context this is her original comment:
"There's free speech and then there's hate speech, and there is no place, especially now, especially after what happened to Charlie, in our society... We will absolutely target you, go after you, if you are targeting anyone with hate speech."
It looks like most Conservatives on social media including the most highly influential ones like Megyn Kelly and arch tradcon Matt Walsh repudiated Bondi for her podcast statement about ‘targeting people for hate speech.’ That should be enough to keep the admin from trying to push UK speech laws on us, but in just 8 months this admin has demonstrated an affinity for thought policing starting with revoking the visas and permits of students and residents who criticize Israel and U.S. support for their war in Gaza, smearing them as ‘hamas sympathizers’ regardless of how benign their statements are or if they actually expressed support for hamas. Simultaneously, this admin has tried to illegally sanction law firms that helped certain plaintiffs sue Trump as a private person and are fighting the admin’s immigration policies in court, which is legally protected first amendment activity even if you don’t agree with their ends. More recently, they have tried to make American flag burning a crime conflating it with imminent lawless action, incitement of violence and “fighting words” even though the act itself can have multiple expressed purposes including respectfully disposing of an irreparable flag. While hate speech has no basis in U.S. law this Admin’s despotic spiral into thought policing and legal retaliation against personal enemies of Trump over the past 8 months suggests they are looking for workarounds to punish ideological dissent against the admin’s objectives. While she did try to back track on Twitter claiming she was referencing threats of violence:
Hate speech that crosses the line into threats of violence is NOT protected by the First Amendment. It’s a crime. For far too long, we’ve watched the radical left normalize threats, call for assassinations, and cheer on political violence. That era is over.

Her Boss had this to say about “Hate speech” in an ABC interview:
Reporter: What do you make of Bondi saying she is going after hate speech, a lot of allies say hate speech is free speech.

Making it clear that the “hate speech” she is targeting is about crushing ideological dissent and retaliating against perceived enemies.
Edit: Trump has once again confirmed that this is the meaning of “hate speech” as defined by the Trump Dept of Injustice.
