My Journey of Self-Discovery - Part 1
I would like to share my journey in the hope that it resonates with you. Despite the different experiences that we encounter, we can often relate to each others’ lives more than we realise.
Hopefully, my own journey will help you to become more in touch with your intuition and making future business decisions that are positive for you.
Early life
During childhood, I was brought up in an Asian culture where it was not the norm for women to work. Despite this, I had a motivational drive deep inside me from an early age. I wanted to do something that would change the world.
But I didn’t have the encouragement at home that many children have. This meant that I was the very shy child at the back of the classroom, not putting my hand up even when I knew the answer.
I had to act as my own guiding force.
Have you ever been in a difficult situation, but found yourself being urged forward in spite of yourself?
There was an inner voice urging me to pursue my own motivation. It was my awareness of this inner strength that made me take the first steps on a more connected journey.
The first steps
The first step in carving out my own destiny came when I saved money to buy driving lessons. For me, this was a symbolic move towards independence and self-reliance.
This inspired a domino effect among the women in my life. They asked me for help in applying for their own provisional licenses. They too wanted to tap into an inner strength that they now realised it was possible to follow.
Later, I also used my own money to buy my first car.
Each independent action was a stepping stone towards the greater journey I was about to embark on.
Learning to trust my intuition and make decisions
Although I went to college and University, I was still far from realizing my true vocation in life.
I got married. But I did this because I knew it would make other people happy, even when it came to the detriment of myself.
Despite the early, positive decisions I had made for myself, I now suppressed my inner voice to please my husband, my family and other people.
But my inner voice got louder.
I was unhappy with the status quo and strived for something more fulfilling in my life. When I began to listen to the important message that my inner voice was telling me, I knew what to do next.
I made the difficult decision to get divorced. I had supported my husband through his successes and had my son. But I had also ignored my own untapped abilities.
For a long time, I had allowed someone else to make decisions for myself. Now I am wholly responsible for my own life. All my decisions and choices are my responsibility – even if I take risks and things don’t always work out, great power comes from knowing that they are my decisions alone. Making our own decisions is what builds our confidence.
Even when I made the wrong choice in the short term, I took those lessons and used them to carve out a new and positive future. Now was the time to put my own talents and desire for growth to the forefront of my life.
I have done so much and you cannot place a value on experience. I hope you have enjoyed this post and please keep an eye out for My Journey (part 2) tomorrow.
