My Niece wants to start a lemonade stand...

I’m so proud to have such a strong-willed niece. Earlier today, she and her friend came into my room with a wonderful idea: they wanted to open a lemonade stand to help support some newborn kittens being nursed by my niece’s friend’s family. While the family is fully capable of caring for the cats, the girls thought it would be meaningful to contribute financially. It’s such a sweet and selfless gesture, and I truly applaud their thoughtfulness.

What amazes me most is how they’ve observed the way our society works and decided that a proactive, business-like approach could achieve an egalitarian goal—especially impressive for children in second and fourth grade. No one suggested this idea to them; they came up with it entirely on their own and then came to me for approval. That shows not only their empathy but also an intuitive understanding of economics and the willpower to turn compassion into action.

I think this deserves a treat.
