the effect is the same..but there is no intent. There ARE no deeper oligarchs...there is only insanity. Which brings me to the way I view the world. There is no ONE responsible. The fact of the matter is that each and EVERY time that Dunbar's number is exceeded that group begins to act according to the Iron Rule. They begin to act irrationally from an individual's point of view. They go nukin futz. The goals of the group are NOT the goals of the individual...in fact they are incomprehensible. Large groups are insane. (from our point of view) . For evidence to support that hypotheses...watch TV or read the news. Would sane people act that way?
