RE: About life with social security
Ugh, back pain is the absolute worst. Especially when it's chronic, long term pain.
Not to be nosy, but are you doing much of anything on the side to help supplement your SSI? I've thought about doing small batches of popular starter plants in the spring, doing small design projects, garden planning services, etc. If you have any type of crafts type stuff you do, I have a couple of friends who sell things on Etsy from time to time. I've actually made money with Mturk as well.
Have you looked into low income/free/sliding scale dental clinics? If not, you may find this site helpful

I haven't been doing anything to supplement my income here. Where I live, the economy has been bad since the 1980s when the iron mines closed. We had a depression before the rest of the country fell into it. There's been a lot of little businesses start up around here, and none of them last very long because there's very little extra money being spent around here. There's just not much of a market here for things that people might want, but don't need. Walmart gets most of that money. I've sold a few things on ebay from time to time, but ebay has become a tough place to sell stuff over the past few years unless you want to practically give it away.
I'm not gaining any ground financially with SSI, but I'm not losing ground right now either. I'm bailing fast enough to keep the boat afloat. :-)
I'll check out that dental link. Thanks!
