Haha...my mom has been doing something similar for at last the past 6 or 7 years - no it must be longer than that because she was doing it even before we moved to Thailand - maybe 10-12 years? Anyway she makes it even simpler by putting a large plastic bag over the whole tree and then moving it just like that to the attic. Next Christmas comes along, bring the tree down, take off the bag covering it - Bob's your uncle! Takes like 5 minutes including the time taken to carry the tree down the stairs.
Did it ruin Christmas for you at all?
Nah, but I was probably in my mid to late 30s when she started doing it lol
Honestly though I go through the same as you do every year, and if I could I would bag that sucker and put it in the attic. I'd even be happy to take off ornaments and put them on again the next year, as long as I don't have to mess with lights. Of course my wife and the kids are in charge of ornaments so...
I remember my boys didn't really care about putting up/taking down the tree. My older daughter loves it, and the two-year old hasn't been old enough to participate until this year - she loved it too.
So, I guess it depends on your kids.
I do have memories of the annual cuss-a-palooza from MY dad each Christmas during the erection of the tree, maybe that's why I'm in favor of the efficient (not lazy) method.
