When i was younger I was a wild kid, I used to be a very self destructive person. i was full of my own ego, living life in a way that could only lead to one of two directions...Dead or in prison. I was constantly hurting myself and the people in my life who cared about me..it's like i was living outside of myself. It took me a long time and a lot of soul searching to figure out why i was the way i was...i had to question why i purposely kept myself on a path to nowhere. As i got older i started to realize what i was doing for so many years, but it felt like it was too late.. I was out of control.

What is Self-Destruction?

Self-Destruction is a behavioral pattern where a person is inflicting harm on themselves, whether it be mentally, emotionally or physically. Through heavy times of stress, anxiety, worry, anger and depression a person might find themselves falling to self-destructive behavioral patterns. During these times is when it is most important to know your own triggers, and what might cause you to fall into a self-destructive pattern.

Forms of Self-Destruction

🔹Drug Use

For me this was my main vice, getting high was a self destructive pattern that i ran to often in my younger years. I didn't have any direction in my life, no vision at all. I turned to drugs to block out the frustrations of life, not realizing how much more damage i was doing to my life as a result of my drug use. I became a person that i don't even recognize anymore. Using drugs not only caused me to lose a part of myself at the time, but i lost friends, family and other people in my life that we're trying to help me. I pushed everybody away, i was angry at my life. It wasn't until i went to prison that i finally realized what i had been doing.

🔹Self Mutilation

Self Mutilation is a common form of self destruction among teenagers. In fact
"90 percent of people who engage in self harm begin during their teen or pre-adolescent years"( source).
Our teenage years a lot of us are put under a heavy amount of stress from school, part-time job, family at home, girlfriend/boyfriend..growing up is hard!

🔹Eating Disorder

Self destruction can also manifest itself in the form of an eating disorder. Overeating for instance is a self destructive pattern that leads to obesity and severe health problems. On the flip side anorexia is another self destructive eating disorder that is terribly damaging to the body. A lot of people are suffering from these issues due to not having any coping mechanisms for themselves in times of stress.

🔹Suicide

Suicide, probably is the most dangerous form of self destruction, yet we see it happen and hear about it happening all the time. It is important to know yourself well enough, to keep yourself from falling under this much stress. Suicide is not only completely damaging to the mind, body and soul, but it is also placing destruction in the lives of loved ones who are left behind.

Don't Wage War on Your Soul

Our souls are the very fiber of our being, it is the energy that permeates the core of our existence. Our soul is what keeps us grounded in our physical bodies, and so we have to feed our souls healthy things just as we do with our bodies. These spiritual nutrients can come in many forms, some people goto church, some read a good book, some people go on nature walks. Whatever it is that helps you get in tune spirituality, try to practice it habitually.

  • Music is something that feeds my soul in a way i cannot explain. When i am going through a tough situation in my life, music alot of the time is what helps to bring me out of myself, so i can think more clearly and not fall into a self destructive pattern. Music invigorates something in me, it causes a spark of spirituality in me...it just takes me there.

  • Psychedelic medicine has also played a major role for me in my spiritual growth. LSD has a certain way of lifting my consciousness up to a place it's never been before. I have found that i open up another piece of myself with every trip. It's a cleansing experience, and if you're into psyches...i think it's great for spiritual and mental health.

  • Binaural beats is something new i have found works for me when i am going through a stressful moment. This is a nice quick fix that calms me down and puts me back at ease. Listen to this with headphones on and see if you are relaxed after 10 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2u86NS3NtMw

  • Meditation is a excellent tool used for thousands of years to achieve spiritual oneness. I don't meditate as often as i should, but i find that when i do..it always brings a peace throughout my soul.

What takes you there? it is different for us all, but it is important for each of us to identify what our spiritual nutrients are. You might not know right now, but take a second and think about it..what positive things do you turn to in times of stress? Ask yourself this question and you will inevitably find the answer.

I hope this information can help guide someone in need.... Peace and Bliss everyone!
