Experience is the best teacher
Life, they say, is unfair and is not balanced; it can never give you all you deserve. That is just life for you. As we grow up, we face many obstacles and challenges; we get to experience many things as well, both the good and the bad. There is no life without experience; in most cases it was that experience that made us who we are. Even for most people you think have made it, that life is soft for them. If they should share their life experience with you, you will realise that indeed life is not fair..
I have come across successful people, and when I listen to their story, I get to realise that it was not easy for them to share their experience with me. That is when I realised the struggle before they got to where they are today. In life we must have experience to tell.
One experience that life taught me is never to trust anyone. People can change at any moment, and they will betray you. My mom will always tell me, 'If you want your secret to be safe with you, never trust anyone or share it with people.' I have this friend of mine that I tell everything that happened in my life to; I see her as a sister. My mom will always tell me that I minimise the way I share my secret with her and that human can’t be trusted and that one day she will betray me. As a child, I didn’t listen to my mom. I will always ask my mom why she hates my friend, but she will always tell me, 'One day you will get to know why you should not trust anyone.'
Just like my mom said, she will betray you one day, and your eye will clear. Someone I take like a sister most times, I displace myself just to please her. She stabbed me in the back. She betrayed so much trust. I trusted this girl with my life. Out of trust, I granted her access to my account. One fateful morning, I woke up and saw a debit alert. I tried reaching out to her, but her number was not reachable. After some weeks, she called me and said that she was no longer in Nigeria. Meanwhile, the money she withdrew from my account was my dad's business money; he forwarded that money into my account because he was having issues with his account.
I pass through hell in the hands of my family members. My mom really made life a living hell for me because she warned me at the beginning, but I paid deaf ear to what she was telling me. To cut the story short, this life experience really shaped me. No matter how close you can be to me, I can never trust you.
Trust is one thing I can’t give to anyone. Most of my friends have come to realise that I don’t trust people. Whenever they ask me why I am having trust issues, I will tell them I learnt my lesson the hard way. This lesson has really helped to shape me. On second thought, I don’t regret the life experience because I have learnt from it. Till I die, I will never trust anyone. Experience, they say, is the best teacher.
